Although Kansas is struggling to get the break it needs to catch Baylor atop the Big 12 standings, it hasn't missed a beat despite its latest adversity. Coming off a dominant road victory in conference play, the third-ranked Jayhawks set their sights on a sixth straight win today when they host a Texas Tech team playing its third consecutive Top 25 opponent. Last week's game-ending brawl against Kansas State resulted in Kansas losing two key reserves - sophomore forwards Silvio De Sousa (12 games) and David McCormack (two) - but the Jayhawks found a way to grind out a 74-68 victory over Tennessee with only seven scholarship players last Saturday before posting a 65-50 wire-to-wire win at Oklahoma State on Monday.

Junior forward Oscar da Silva averages 16.2 points and 5.7 rebounds while shooting 61 percent from the field to lead the Cardinal, who sit atop the Pac-12 standings following USC’s loss to Oregon on Thursday. The 6-9, 225-pound da Silva scored 21 points and freshman Spencer Jones added 18 in last Sunday’s 82-78 loss to USC, which trailed 45-25 at the half before storming back to hand Stanford its third defeat of the season.  The Cardinal will need to be careful not to overlook Cal, which has shown improvement under first-year coach Mark Fox but struggled to score in back-to-back losses to USC and UCLA last week. The Wildcats won't have forwards James Love or Antonio Gordon available when they visit Alabama as part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge due to suspensions handed down following a brawl that spilled into the stands at the conclusion of Tuesday's contest. The Crimson Tide come in hot with wins in three straight - all by double figures - and are coming home after pounding Vanderbilt 77-62 on the road last weekend.

Alabama is one of the highest-scoring teams in the nation entering today’s contest at Vanderbilt and, after losing two of its first three games in SEC play, the Crimson Tide are finding their stride following victories over Auburn and Missouri last week. Junior guard John Petty Jr. rebounded from a rare off-night offensively, scoring 20 points with six rebounds to spark Alabama to an 88-74 home victory Saturday, and now the focus is on improving its 1-4 road record. Petty, who averages 16.3 points for an offense ranked second nationally in scoring at 83.5, hit four 3-pointers against Missouri after finishing just 2-for-9 from the field in a seven-point performance against Auburn. The Commodores come in looking to snap a 22-game regular-season losing streak in SEC play - matching the second-longest league losing streak in conference history - and in Saturday’s 66-45 defeat to Tennessee they did not hit a 3-pointer for the first time since the shot’s inception in 1986.

Rutgers looks to extend its home winning streak to 13 games when it faces Minnesota in Big Ten play today. The Scarlet Knights have won seven of their last eight games overall, including a 59-50 victory over Indiana on Wednesday, and hope to take another step toward their first NCAA Tournament berth since 1991 by knocking off the Golden Gophers for the third time in their last four meetings. The Golden Gophers have won six of their last eight games following a 4-5 start to the season to climb over .500 in conference play and they hope to stay in the thick of the Big Ten race by registering their first road win, after dropping five away games to open the 2019-20 campaign.

San Diego State's 18-0 start is the second best in school history behind the 2010-11 squad which began 20-0 en route to a share of the Mountain West regular-season title and a Sweet 16 berth where they lost to eventual national champion Connecticut, 74-67. The Aztecs improved to 7-0 in conference play on Tuesday night when they grinded out a 64-55 win at Fresno State and former assistant Justin Hutson, holding the Bulldogs to just 36-percent shooting in the process. Nevada squad needed a driving layup by guard Jalen Harris with nine seconds remaining to pull out a 68-67 home win over 5-14 Wyoming on Saturday that also snapped a two-game losing streak.

Colorado State is off an amazing shooting performance in its Thursday win over New Mexico. The Rams were incredible from beyond the arc in the rout over the Lobos. They knocked down a remarkable 19/28 on those treys. This sets up a bounce situation as teams off abberational performances generally regress to their norm pretty quickly. I expect CSU to cool off today. Air Force is proving to be deadly from long range themselves, especially at home.

Rutgers suffered its first loss since Dec. 8 after dropping a 54-51 decision to Illinois on Saturday. The Scarlet Knights held the Fighting Illini to 28.6 percent shooting, but scored five points in the final five minutes to come up short in Champaign, and they hope to stay on track for their first winning season since 2005-06 by improving to 12-0 at home.

The Buckeyes are now 1-4 in the Big Ten but three of those losses came on the road against pretty solid teams in Minnesota, Maryland and Indiana. Ohio St. is now 8-1 at home and are 35-9 over the last three seasons at Value City Arena. The Huskers enter the game with the Buckeyes with a 7-9 record and an 0-4 record in true road games. Nebraska is 2-3 in Big Ten with the wins coming against Purdue and Iowa at home. Nebraska was picked to finish last in the conference and it is a game away from that now ahead of only the Buckeyes and Northwestern, which they just lost to on Saturday.

Defensively Utah ranks 11th in the conference in surrendering 69.3 points per outing and only is forcing 11.9 turnovers per contest, which also ranks 11th in the league. Point guard McKinley Wright does it all for the Buffs, leading the team in scoring (13.4) and assists (4.9) while averaging 5.3 rebounds as well. He’s been especially productive over the last four games, averaging 19.3 points, 6.0 rebounds and 7.5 assists. Forward Tyler Bey (13.1 points, team-leading 9.6 rebounds) and guard D’Shawn Schwartz (11.0 points, 45.1 3-point shooting percentage) also average double digits for Colorado, which is allowing the second-fewest points (61.9) in the Pac-12, despite the 76 surrendered to the Beavers on Sunday

Virginia limited Virginia Tech to 39 points last Saturday but surrendered 60 in a seven-point loss to Tuesday in a game that was tied heading into the final 45 seconds. Boeheim's crew has dropped two straight, but none of the seven losses was as embarrassing as the first. The Orange shot 23.6 percent from the floor in the season opener, absorbing a 48-34 defeat at Virginia - their fewest points under Boeheim, who took over in 1976, and the fewest since a 49-31 loss to Temple in 1945. Virginia is 8-5 all-time against Syracuse, including a 7-1 mark in ACC action. The Cavaliers own a four-game winning streak in the series and are 3-1 against the Orange at John Paul Jones Arena. The Cavaliers have held the Orange to 68 or fewer points in each of the last nine meetings.

Kobe King scored a game-high 21 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the floor, but the Badgers saw their 15-game winning streak against Illinois come to an end. Micah Potter narrowly missed out on a double-double as he added 13 points and nine rebounds while Nate Reuvers, who is averaging a team-best 14.3 points per game this season, was limited to seven against the Fighting Illini. The Badgers have won seven consecutive road meetings with the Nittany Lions.

The last four meetings between these teams have ALL been decided by four points or less. They had scores of 74-71, 70-67, 79-75 and 77-75. ASU won three of those four. Going back further finds that the Sun Devils have won 15 of the last 20 meetings. While the Sun Devils did get blown out last time, they're 2-0 SU/ATS the past couple of seasons, when off a Pac-12 loss of 20 or more points. Meanwhile, the Beavers are just 2-4 ATS the past six times that they were home favorites in the -3.5 to -6 range. In what should be another close one, consider grabbing the points.

No. 24 Arizona, which had a six-year run of NCAA Tournament bids snapped last season, delivered a statement win to open Pac-12 play with a 75-47 victory over in-state rival Arizona State. Things get quite a bit tougher in Week 2 of conference play for Sean Miller's squad which travels to the Pacific Northwest to play the Oregon schools, starting with tonight's contest against the ninth-ranked Ducks. The contests with Oregon and Sunday at Oregon State mark the Wildcats' first games outside the state of Arizona since Dec. 7 when they lost at current No. 4-ranked Baylor, 63-58.  Arizona leads the series 51-32, but Oregon has won the last three.

Sophomore center Daniel Oturu has been the leader for Minnesota this season, ranking second in the Big Ten in scoring with 19.1 points per game while adding a league-best 12.4 rebounds along with 3.1 blocks. Sophomore guard Marcus Carr has also been vital to the team's success, averaging 15.9 points and a team-high 6.9 assists while ranking 15th in the country with 36.5 minutes per contest. Michigan State caught fire lately behind its senior All-American guard Cassius Winston, who has team-high averages of 18.9 points and 6.3 assists. The Spartans have a number of offensive weapons and pass the ball extremely well, though junior forward Xavier Tillman has stood out recently, averaging 14.7 points and 9.9 rebounds during the seven-game winning streak.

Arkansas goes for a fourth straight victory when it opens SEC play at home today against Texas A&M. The Razorbacks are coming off a win at Indiana on Sunday, while the Aggies just got by Texas Southern on Monday for their third consecutive victory. Coach Buzz Williams hasn't seen a lot of offense from his team in his first season at the helm of Texas A&M, as it ranks last in the SEC in scoring by nearly 10 points - averaging just 57.7 points. Senior forward Josh Nebo and junior swingman Savion Flagg are the only two Texas A&M players averaging in double figures in scoring at 11.4 and 11.3 points, respectively. Arkansas has been nearly perfect this season, thanks in no small part to its defense, which ranks No. 1 in the nation in defending the 3-point shot - holding opponents to just 21.9 percent from beyond the arc. Offensively, the Razorbacks have a trio of dynamic guards in Mason Jones (19.7 points, 6.2 rebounds), Isaiah Joe (17.4, 4.7) and Jimmy Whitt Jr. (13.5, 5.6) leading the way for first-year coach Eric Musselman.

For the first time since 2008, Alabama and Florida meet in their SEC opener as they battle in Gainesville this evening. The Gators closed out their up-and-down nonconference slate with a dominant 102-63 triumph over Long Beach State while the Crimson Tide head into conference play on a roll, winning three straight and five of the last six after beating Richmond 90-78 on Sunday. Alabama scored at least 90 points in those last three victories, the first time since the 2000-01 season that the Crimson Tide has hit that mark in three straight games. Along the way, they averaged 95.7 points and shot 49.7 percent from the field, including 44.9 percent from deep. But while the Crimson Tide seem to be on the rise after their 2-4 start in coach Nate Oats' first season at the helm, the Gators remain inconsistent, following up their last two wins with losses as they wrapped up one of the toughest nonconference schedules in the country. Making matters even more difficult, Florida may face the high-scoring Tide without its best defender as guard Scottie Lewis may miss his second straight game with a concussion.

The Golden Hurricane's last game Sunday was a competitive 69-67 loss at Kansas State in which the team employed a balanced attack, as 10 players registered 2-to-12 points and nobody took more than nine shots. LSU transfer Brandon Rachal (team highs of 14.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.1 steals) was held to single-digit points for the first time since early November. Darien Jackson (9.3 points) continued his sizzling play of late as he added 10 points Sunday and the junior guard is 21-of-31 from the field over the last five outings.

Two teams picked to finish near the bottom of the Pac-12 look to start conference play on a winning note Thursday when California visits rival Stanford. Cal is rebuilding after winning eight games in each of the past two seasons, while Stanford opened with an 11-1 mark before committing 19 turnovers in last Sunday’s 72-56 loss to No. 3 Kansas. Stanford leads the Pac-12 in scoring defense at 58.8 points per game while Cal is 6-2 at home this season and 0-5 away from Haas Pavilion.

Fourth-ranked Louisville and its stifling defense travel some 75 miles down Interstate 64 to face No. 19 Kentucky in the 53rd renewal of the Bluegrass State rivalry today. The Wildcats have won six of the past seven meetings after a 71-58 victory last season and five straight at Rupp Arena, but Kentucky's latest crop of freshmen is about to take its hardest test against Louisville's experienced group. The Cardinals are third nationally in field goal defense at 35 percent - 40.7 inside the 3-point line and 26.7 outside it - and have held their last five opponents to 21.4 percent shooting from beyond the arc. Houston aims to reach a semifinal game with either Georgia Tech or Boise State on Monday, but must first get past a Portland team that has cooled off since winning six of its first seven games - losing only to USC by 11. The Pilots have lost three of five since and should come to Hawai'i angry after losing at home 73-63 on Thursday against Jackson State, which won its first game against a Division I opponent.

Cincinnati leads the all-time series 6-3, but the Hawkeyes won the last meeting 79-72 last March in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Garza had 20 points and Wieskamp added 19 for the Hawkeyes, while Jarron Cumberland had 18 for the Bearcats. Iowa features the No.1 ranked team in the nation in offensive efficiency (115.3 points per 100 possessions).

Obi Toppin, a 6-9 sophomore, leads the Flyers with 20.1 points and 8.1 rebounds per outing but is coming off a season-low 11 points in the win over North Texas. Crutcher is averaging 12.5 points and a team-leading 5.5 assists while forward Ryan Mikesell (10.9 points), and guards Trey Landers (10.2) and Ibi Watson (10.1) also are averaging double figures. Overall, Dayton is tops nationally with a 53.7 team field-goal percentage and is ninth with a 1.49 assist-to-turnover ratio while averaging 84.8 points (sixth).

Washington's absence was noticeable in the loss at Minnesota, where Ohio State could have used his 11.4 points per game and 53.7 percent 3-point shooting. Similar to Kentucky, Ohio State brings two productive freshmen - guard D.J. Carton and forward E.J. Liddell - off the bench who could end up being difference-makers in this matchup of top teams.

The Irish's strengths are 3-point shooting, which accounts for 37.5 percent of their field goals, and avoiding turnovers (9.7 per game, nation's best 1.82 assist-to-turnover ratio), but they could be vulnerable inside the paint against Indiana.

Liberty will be facing a rested Commodores team that hasn't played since a 90-76 win over Buffalo on Dec. 3 and hasn't left its home gym since a Nov. 14 trip to Richmond. Vanderbilt entered Friday ranked 23rd in the country in scoring (82.4) and 28th in field-goal percentage (48.5) behind sophomore guard Aaron Nesmith, the top SEC scorer at 22.8 points per game. The Commodores rode a 33-point effort from Darius Garland, who now plays for the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers, to a 79-70 victory over Liberty at home last season.

Illinois knocked on the door of a confidence-building Big Ten victory before pushing it in last time out and looks to avoid losing the momentum when it hosts Old Dominion for a non-conference contest Saturday night. The Illini lost by two against Miami (Fla.) of the ACC before coming up short in a 59-58 loss to No. 4 Maryland last Saturday, but broke through by holding off seventh-ranked Michigan 71-62 on Wednesday. The Illini won the only other previous meeting 80-62 at the San Juan Shootout in Puerto Rico in 1990.

Wichita State will try to complete the Okie Double when it hosts Oklahoma on Saturday. The Shockers knocked off Oklahoma State on the road Sunday behind the play of freshman Tyson Etienne and will look to thwart the Sooners in a battle of one-loss teams.Wichita State, which will face Oklahoma for the fourth straight season having dropped the last two meetings, has never beaten the Sooners and Cowboys in the same season.

Indiana didn't play particularly well Tuesday night against Connecticut, but it was good enough to come away with a 57-54 victory at Madison Square Garden in the Jimmy V Classic. The Hoosiers did not have a player reach double figures for the first time in more than 20 years, but 10 players scored and six finished with six points or more. Though Indiana lost at home to Nebraska last season, this group of Cornhuskers is a much different team. Under new coach Fred Hoiberg and with a revamped roster, Nebraska has struggled through its non-conference schedule and dropped three of its last four games, including a 95-76 loss to in-state opponent Creighton on Dec. 7.

Dayton bested Georgia and Va Tech, before nearly upsetting Kansas in the title game, falling 90-84 in OT. Saint Mary's (9-1) has won EIGHT in a row but has yet to return to the top-25, after being ranked No. 20 in the preseason. The Gaels lone loss was in its second game, 61-59 at home vs Winthrop.

It will be a homecoming for Oklahoma State head coach Mike Boynton on Wednesday as the native of Brooklyn leads his undefeated Cowboys squad into the Barclays Center to face Syracuse in the NIT Season Tip-Off. Off to their best start in five years, the Cowboys used a strong defensive effort to hold off Western Michigan 70-63 on Friday and earn their fifth consecutive victory to open the season. Syracuse has lost two in a row to Oklahoma State with its last win coming in the second round of the 2003 NCAA Tournament. Carmelo Anthony scored 13 points for the Orange while Tony Allen had 10 for the Cowboys.

Villanova has knocked down a combined 28 3-pointers in wins over Middle Tennessee and Mississippi State since arriving in Myrtle Beach as it seems intent on shooting their way to another title. Robinson-Earl had a team-high 22 points with 9-of-12 shooting in Friday's victory over Mississippi State, while Saddiq Bey contributed 17 points and was 7-of-10 from the floor.

Top-seeded Duke squeezed by its last two opponents in the final possession and faces an even bigger challenge today when it battles red-hot second seed Michigan State in the East Region final at Washington D.C., for a trip to the Final Four. The Blue Devils survived two potential winning shots against Central Florida in the second round and Virginia Tech’s attempt to tie in the final second Friday in the Region semifinal. Michigan State comes in with an eight-game winning streak and has won its three NCAA Tournament games by 48 points combined. The Spartans have gotten consistent performances from senior point guard Cassius Winston, who is averaging 18.7 points and seven assists in the tournament, and received career games from freshmen Aaron Henry and Gabe Brown to beat LSU 80-63 in Friday’s Region semifinal. The clincher:  Michigan State is 25-9 ATS in their last 34 games overall.

SEC rivals Auburn and Kentucky have met 113 times on the court, but none have been as significant as today's Midwest Region final in Kansas City, Mo. with a Final Four berth on the line. The fifth-seeded Tigers are the hottest team in college basketball with 11 straight wins and will be trying to take down their third consecutive giant of the sport after coasting past Kansas 89-75 in the second round and routing North Carolina 97-80 in Friday's Sweet 16. The clincher:  Auburn is 10-3-1 ATS in their last 14 games after scoring more than 90 points in their previous game.

Virginia has bounced back from last season's embarrassing upset against a 16th seed in its tournament opener - not to mention a first-round scare this year - to defeat Gardner-Webb, Oklahoma and Oregon - all seeded ninth or lower. The Cavaliers better bring their 'A-game' against a Boilermakers squad that has shut down Old Dominion, routed defending champion Villanova and outlasted Tennessee in overtime in the first three rounds of this event. All of that has led to a matchup between defensive-minded Virginia, which has allowed a national-best 54.8 points this season, and a Purdue squad that averages more than 20 points above that figure.  The clincher: Purdue is 41-19 ATS in their last 60 non-conference games.

Texas Tech has used stifling defense to advance to the Elite Eight for the second straight year, holding Big Ten heavyweight Michigan to just 16 first-half points and a season low in points in a dominating 63-44 victory on Thursday night in the Sweet 16. But for the Red Raiders to reach the Final Four for the first time in school history, they will have to find a way to slow down the nation's No. 1 offense, Gonzaga, on Saturday night in the West Regional final in Anaheim, Calif. Houston knows a little bit about defense, too, ranking seventh in the nation in points allowed per game (61) due to slotting first in effective field-goal percentage (42.3) and 3-point percentage (27.8 percent) and ranking fifth in 2-point percentage (42.7). The Cougars thrived in the first weekend of the tournament due to their defense and senior guard Corey Davis Jr., who had 10 3-pointers and 47 points as the Cougars set a school record with 33 wins while advancing to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 1983-84 when Phi Slama Jama, led by Hakeem Olajuwon, lost in the national finals to Georgetown.

The Blue Devils entered the tournament as the favorite to win their sixth national championship, but they had to pull an escape act in the final seconds of a 77-76 win over UCF on Sunday. Duke trailed by three with 14.4 seconds left and avoided a buzzer-beating defeat when the Knights missed two chances on the final possession. Now the fourth-seeded Hokies take aim, trying to join North Carolina in taking down the Blue Devils twice this season. Virginia Tech is in the Sweet 16 for the first time since the tournament expanded in 1985 after picking up a program-record 26th win with a 67-58 victory over Liberty on Sunday.

Freshman forward Nassir Little matched Maye with 20 points in the 81-59 win over Washington in the second round, while freshman guard Coby White chipped in 17 points and six assists. Leading scorer Cameron Johnson (16.9) tied his career high with seven assists and has 11 of them against just one turnover in the tournament. Sophomore forward Garrison Brooks (8.0 points, 5.7 rebounds) is fine after taking an elbow to the face in the second-round victory, while senior guard Kenny Williams (8.5 points, 3.5 assists) hopes to play through a hamstring strain. Michigan State leads the Big Ten in scoring offense (78.5 points), field-goal percentage (48.6 percent) and free-throw percentage (75.7 percent), but the Spartans are also tops in the league in field-goal percentage defense (37.7 percent), holding opponents to 65.1 points a contest. Guard Cassius Winston leads the way for coach Tom Izzo, averaging 18.9 points and 7.5 assists, though a number of players have the capability to have big scoring games, including guard Matt McQuaid (9.9 points, 43.3 percent 3-point shooting) and forwards Nick Ward (13.7 points, 59.1 percent shooting) and Xavier Tillman (7.2, 61 percent).

Virginia leads the nation in scoring defense (55.0) and will need another strong effort against the red-hot Ducks, who have won 10 straight contests after knocking off fifth-seeded Wisconsin by 18 points in the first round and rolling past No. 13 seed UC Irvine 73-54 in the second on Sunday. Senior guard Ehab Amin, who is scoring 5.8 per game overall, drained all four of his 3-point attempts to score 12 while sophomore forward Kenny Wooten had 11 points, eight rebounds and seven blocks in the win over UC Irvine to support the top performers for Oregon.

Second-seeded Michigan takes on No. 3 seed Texas Tech in the West Region semifinal in Anaheim, Calif. today in a battle of two of the top defensive teams in the country. Michigan, who is ranked second nationally in scoring defense (58.2), took care of business against Montana (74-55) and Florida (64-49) to advance past the opening weekend for the third consecutive year while notching 30 wins in back-to-back seasons for the first time in program history. The clincher:  Michigan is 42-19-4 ATS in their last 65 neutral site games.

The Cavaliers will challenge the Sooners' hot shooters as the defense ranks near the top of the nation in field goal percentage defense (38.1 percent) although Garden-Webb did manage to hit 44 percent of its shots Friday. The Cavaliers connected on 51.9 percent from the floor in the win as sophomore De'Andre Hunter, who missed last year's tournament with an injury suffered in the ACC Tournament, topped the team with 23 points, while Mamadi Diakite added 17 points along with a team-high nine rebounds and Ty Jerome scored 13. Virginia, which outrebounded Gardner-Webb 35-21, has held eight of the last 10 opponents under 60 points and the Cavaliers rank first in the nation in scoring defense (55.1). The clincher: Virginia is 14-4 ATS in their last 18 games following a ATS loss.

Aiken, the team’s leading scorer at 22.4 points per game, shot 4-of-9 from the field and was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line while adding four rebounds and two steals in just 17 minutes against Georgetown. Three other Crimson players reached double figures in scoring, led by freshman Noah Kirkwood’s 11 points and seven assists. Harvard outrebounded the Hoyas 39-30 and made 13-of-16 free throws but will need to clean up on its 16 turnovers to pull off a second consecutive upset.
