06-27-22 | White Sox v. Angels -130 | 3-4 | Win | 100 | 11 h 35 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Right-hander Lucas Giolitto (4-4, 5.40 ERA) will make his 13th start of the season for the White Sox, coming off his two worst starts of the year. He gave up eight runs and seven hits in five innings in a loss to the Astros on June 17, and seven runs and 11 hits in five innings in a loss to the Blue Jays on Wednesday. The Angels are coming off Sunday's fight-marred game against the Mariners in which interim manager Phil Nevin and three players -- pitchers Andrew Wantz, Raisel Iglesias and Ryan Tepera -- were ejected. Potential suspensions are pending, but until then they are available for today's game. Right-hander Noah Syndergaard (4-6, 3.86) will be on the mound for the Angels on Monday to make his 12th start of the season. He has made two appearances (one start) against the White Sox in his career, allowing one unearned run and five hits in 8 1/3 innings. |
06-27-22 | Rangers -132 v. Royals | 10-4 | Win | 100 | 9 h 55 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Texas will turn to left-hander Martin Perez (5-2, 1.96 ERA), who is coming off two stellar outings. He scattered six hits over six innings to go with six strikeouts and three walks in a 7-0 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday. He allowed a run on eight hits, walked none and struck out five in a 3-1 win over the Detroit Tigers on June 16. Perez is 4-1 with a 4.43 ERA in 11 appearances (all starts) in 61 innings against the Royals in his career but has allowed eight home runs. The Royals will counter on Monday with left-hander Kris Bubic (1-4, 7.41), who picked up his first win of the season in his most recent outing. He yielded just two runs on six hits with seven strikeouts and two walks in six innings in a 6-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels last Monday. Bubic has faced the Rangers twice in his career, both times as a reliever. He's allowed four runs on four hits with two strikeouts and two walks in 1 2/3 innings. |
06-27-22 | Marlins v. Cardinals -125 | 0-9 | Win | 100 | 8 h 26 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Cardinals have traditionally been a good home team and this season is no exception. Wainwright, in particular, has been dominant at home in his career. He is 101-56 in his illustrious career at Busch Stadium. He is also 7-2 lifetime against the Marlins, including a win this season. While the Marlins have been a good to very good team at home, that success has not translated on the road this season. Lopez is 2-2 on the road this season but has been susceptible to the long ball away from Miami, allowing 5 in 7 starts. |
06-26-22 | Dodgers -110 v. Braves | 5-3 | Win | 100 | 9 h 9 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Gonsolin (9-0, 1.58 ERA) will be opposed by Atlanta rookie Spencer Strider (3-2, 3.40) in the final regular-season meeting between the clubs. Gonsolin is coming off a win over Cincinnati on Tuesday in which he allowed two runs on three hits in five innings. The right-hander is 4-0 in four June starts with a 1.16 ERA in 23 1/3 innings. Gonsolin is 1-0 with an 0.90 ERA in two career starts against Atlanta. He beat the Braves on April 20 by allowing one hit over six shutout innings. He will be opposed by the hard-throwing mustachioed Strider, who is coming off his worst start since joining the rotation. Strider gave up a season-high six runs on six hits in 3 2/3 innings in a no-decision against San Francisco. |
06-26-22 | Phillies v. Padres -148 | 8-5 | Loss | -148 | 7 h 35 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Padres will hand the ball off to one of baseball's most reliable arms, as Yu Darvish looks to close out the weekend strong. The righty comes into this one with a 7-3 record and 3.17 ERA and has failed to allow more than a single run in any of his last three starts. Beyond that, he went seven scoreless innings against the Phillies earlier this season, as he brings quite a bit of confidence into this one. |
06-26-22 | Blue Jays -148 v. Brewers | 3-10 | Loss | -148 | 1 h 58 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Gonzalez (0-1, 7.36 ERA) will make his second start for Milwaukee since being claimed on waivers from Minnesota, while the Blue Jays will counter with fellow right-hander Jose Berrios (5-3, 5.11). Gonzalez gave up three runs in four innings in his first start with Milwaukee, a 6-2 loss to St. Louis on Tuesday. The right-hander, a first-round pick by the Texas Rangers in 2013, made two starts this season with Minnesota without a decision, allowing six runs in seven innings. His first start with the Twins this season was against Toronto, in which he gave up three in four innings. Milwaukee is 9-14 in June, including being shut out four times. Berrios is 2-1 with a 1.42 ERA in three career starts vs. Milwaukee. He faced the Brewers once last season while with the Twins and did not allow a hit or a walk over six scoreless innings, striking out 12 in a 2-0 victory. |
06-26-22 | Mets -134 v. Marlins | 2-3 | Loss | -134 | 2 h 25 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Peterson, in two career starts against the Marlins, is 2-0 with a 1.74 ERA. This year, the Mets are 8-2 when Peterson starts. He's made a dramatic turnaround from last year, when he went 2-6 with a 5.54 ERA. The Mets were 6-9 when he started last year. Showalter said catcher James McCann will start again on Sunday in his second game back from wrist surgery. That's good news for Peterson, who has a 0.64 ERA in three games this season with McCann. Meanwhile, the Marlins are expected to start right-hander Daniel Castano, who is 0-1 with a 2.57 ERA in five games this season, including two starts. The 27-year-old fits the "journeyman" tag as he has pitched 100 times in his minor league career and on just 17 occasions in the majors. His MLB record is 1-5 with a 3.52 ERA, and his only win came on Sept. 27, 2020, when he pitched 6 1/3 scoreless innings at the New York Yankees. Castano is 0-1 with a 3.75 ERA in three career games against the Mets, including two starts. |
06-25-22 | Dodgers v. Braves -141 | 3-5 | Win | 100 | 7 h 37 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Braves have been lights out in the month of June with an 18-3 record heading into Friday night's matchup. Secondly, the raw emotion of Freeman's return will have subsided by Saturday night and the baseball should take center stage. With this in mind, I'm leaning more towards Fried in this battle of excellent left-handers. While Heaney's been excellent in a limited sample this season, he will certainly be on a pitch count which will mean the game gets turned over to the Dodgers' bullpen probably a bit earlier than they'd like. Fried will likely get deeper into the game and thus get to the Braves' strong backend of the pen. Look for the hot-hitting Braves to take advantage of Heaney's early exit and put up some runs against a Dodger bullpen that is slightly more vulnerable than in years past. |
06-25-22 | Blue Jays v. Brewers -172 | 4-5 | Win | 100 | 4 h 50 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Blue Jays are at a disadvantage when Kikuchi has been on the mound this month. The veteran has allowed three or more runs in four consecutive outings and did not reach the fifth inning in any of these performances. He has surrendered a whopping seven homers in that span. Furthermore, Brewers’ starter Corbin Burnes is fresh off seven shutout innings against the Cardinals. The ace has limited his opponent to two or fewer runs in five out of his last six starts. The Blue Jays' bullpen has been an issue as well and they have dropped five out of their last eight games. |
06-25-22 | Cubs v. Cardinals -187 | 3-5 | Win | 100 | 2 h 51 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Cubs have been a disaster, especially this month. They have somehow only won seven games in the entire month and now feature one of the worst records in the Major Leagues. The Cardinals are a strong club that has won eight out of their last ten home games. The Cardinals should feast on Cubs' starter Adrian Sampson in this one. Sampson has amassed a 5.01 career ERA at the Major League level and has only made two appearances all season. Chicago has a few injuries to the starting pitching staff, plus the team is rebuilding and just don’t have the pitching depth. Cards’ starter Miles Mikolas continues to dazzle, registering a marvelous 2.57 ERA in his four starts this month. |
06-25-22 | Astros v. Yankees -175 | 3-0 | Loss | -175 | 1 h 48 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units While overshadowed by some of his teammates in the rotation this season, Cole is having another ace-level season with outstanding numbers across the board including a 25.4 K-BB%. The Yankees provide plenty of run support, leading baseball with a 120 wRC+ as offseason additions like Jose Trevino plus a bounce-back season by Gleyber Torres has helped add depth to the star-studded core. Javier can get a little wild with a walk rate that is just under 10% and is not typically very efficient with his pitching count, with the Yankees poised to jump on any mistake he makes. This is a tough team to bet against right now even facing a strong Astros side, and Cole will lead another win here. |
06-24-22 | Cubs v. Cardinals -151 | 3-0 | Loss | -151 | 10 h 29 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units An uphill battle lies ahead for Chicago in this opener. Kyle Hendricks will surely feel like he has the weight of the world on his shoulders considering the recent defensive struggles. He’s coming off an ugly pitching performance against the Atlanta Braves and taking on one of the best hitting teams in the league. The Cardinals are averaging the fifth-most hits (8.70) and runs (4.82). Meanwhile, Hendricks is throwing a 5.43 ERA with a 2-6 record. |
06-24-22 | Lightning v. Avalanche -171 | 3-2 | Loss | -171 | 6 h 49 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Lightning are hoping to extend this series and should put together their best performance of the series as a result. The problem is that the Avalanche have controlled this series in all three zones and with the Stanley Cup in the building, they look to close out the series on their home ice. The Avalanche, who have averaged 4.5 goals per game in the playoffs, should constantly find the back of the net with Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen, and the rest of the forward unit establishing a strong offensive zone presence and creating open shots with great puck movement in the offensive zone to catch the Lightning defense out of position. The Avalanche should also build off a Game Four where they only allowed two goals and limit the Lightning offense with Cale Makar, Devon Toews, and the rest of the defensive unit forcing turnovers in the neutral zone and defensive zone while limiting shots on the net, allowing goaltender Darcy Kuemper to step up and make plenty of big saves in the net. The Avalanche should win Game Five to win the Stanley Cup Final with a strong game on their home ice. |
06-24-22 | Orioles v. White Sox -156 | 4-1 | Loss | -156 | 6 h 3 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Orioles are an improved team but are nine games below .500 on the road. The White Sox are playing better recently. They have won six out of their last nine games after recording a series win against the Blue Jays this week. Furthermore, Michael Kopech is having a great season. He has limited his opponent to two or fewer runs in nine of his 12 performances. It’s especially challenging to solve him at Guaranteed Rate Field where he features a minuscule 1.57 ERA. |
06-24-22 | Nationals v. Rangers -148 | 2-1 | Loss | -148 | 5 h 24 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units These teams are unfamiliar with each other and that means the pitchers have yet to face off against the opposition in their respective careers. With that said, the Nationals have struggled to put together any kind of consistent offensive performances at the plate or on the mound, which is a prime reason the team is buried in the basement of the NL East. Dunning has had his ups and downs this season but the Rangers have played some decent ball of late and are within striking distance of the .500 mark. Washington is a dismal 13-21 on the road and their bullpen has been ground down of late. Give the advantage to the Rangers as they keep rolling and Dunning keeps Washington in check. |
06-24-22 | Red Sox -115 v. Guardians | 6-3 | Win | 100 | 5 h 54 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Red Sox have been an outstanding offensive team this year, ranked third in the majors in team batting average (.258). Third baseman Rafael Devers leads the way with 90 hits, including 16 home runs. Shortstop Xander Bogaerts has 85 hits, while designated hitter J.D. Martinez has 76 base knocks. They are facing a Cleveland pitching staff that is No. 7 with an ERA of 3.65. Right-handed pitcher Nick Pivetta is going to make the start for Boston on Friday night. He allowed one run on four hits and four walks across seven innings against St. Louis in his last outing. Pivetta struck out 10 batters, marking the second time in three starts that he struck out double-digit batters. He went 0-4 through his first five starts, but he is now 7-1 with a 1.77 ERA over his last nine outings. |
06-23-22 | Phillies v. Padres -150 | 6-2 | Loss | -150 | 7 h 59 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Right-hander Joe Musgrove (8-0, 1.59 ERA) will rejoin the Padres on today, coming back from COVID-19 protocol to face the Phillies in the series opener. He will be matched against left-hander Ranger Suarez (5-4, 4.43). Musgrove is 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA in four career appearances, three starts, against the Phillies. The Padres are 11-1 in Musgrove's starts, and all 12 of those outings qualified as quality starts -- a franchise record to open a season. In addition to having the second-lowest earned run average in the major leagues, Musgrove has a 0.924 WHIP and a .196 opponents' batting average. |
06-23-22 | Astros v. Yankees -120 | 6-7 | Win | 100 | 4 h 18 m | Show
Rating 2 Units New York is an MLB-best 16-7 against left-handed pitchers this season, and they come into this series on a 14-game home winning streak. The Astros are one of the best baseball teams, but they will have a tough time in a hostile environment Thursday. The Stros have dropped five of their last seven games at Yankee Stadium, and Framber Valdez hasn't faced a lineup as tough as New York's yet this season (if there even is one). Valdez was also roughed up for five runs in 3 1/3 innings in his only career start at Yankee Stadium, which was back in 2019, so I expect some nerves here. The Yankees have won 11 of the last 12 starts made by Jameson Taillon, and I give them the edge to take the opener. |
06-23-22 | Mariners -115 v. A's | 2-1 | Win | 100 | 1 h 6 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The series finale will pair Mariners left-hander Robbie Ray (6-6, 4.25 ERA) and A's righty Frankie Montas (3-7, 3.53). Ray has rebounded from a 4-6 start to go unbeaten in his past three outings. After shutting out the Boston Red Sox on three hits over seven innings in a no-decision two starts ago, Ray was rewarded with lots of run support in an 8-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels. He struck out 10 in the victory while giving up just one run on three hits and one walk in seven innings. Unlike Ray, Montas has shown no signs of turning things around. He has won just once in his past 11 starts. He has served up five runs on four occasions this season, including each of his past two starts, the latest of which was a 5-1 home loss to the Kansas City Royals on Friday. |
06-22-22 | Avalanche v. Lightning +100 | 3-2 | Loss | -100 | 11 h 18 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Avalanche are looking to bounce back after Game Three and take a 3-1 series lead. The problem is that the Lightning have taken the momentum of the series after a decisive victory and look to once again overwhelm the Avalanche in all three zones. The Lightning look to build off a six-goal game and constantly find the back of the net with Nikita Kucherov, Steven Stamkos, and the rest of the forward unit controlling the puck in the offensive zone and creating open shots with great puck movement. The Lightning, who allowed only two goals in the recent game also look to limit the Avalanche offense with Victor Hedman, Mikhail Sergachev, and the rest of the unit creating turnovers in the defensive zone and limiting shots on the net, allowing goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy to once again step up and make plenty of big saves. The Lightning should win Game Four to even up the series with a decisive victory on their home ice. |
06-22-22 | Tigers v. Red Sox -130 | 2-6 | Win | 100 | 9 h 50 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Tigers left-hander Tarik Skubal (5-4, 3.13 ERA) will start the series finale. He has lost his last two starts, allowing four runs in four innings to Toronto on June 12 before giving up five runs in five innings at home to Texas on Friday. He got into trouble quickly against the Rangers, putting his team at a three-run deficit before it even came to bat. The Red Sox will counter on Wednesday with right-hander Michael Wacha (5-1, 2.28), who is coming off a win against one of his former teams, St. Louis, on Friday. He gave up one run and six hits in 5 1/3 innings. Wacha has faced the Tigers twice in his career, getting no-decisions each time while giving up two runs in a combined 9 1/3 innings. |
06-22-22 | Dodgers -140 v. Reds | 8-4 | Win | 100 | 7 h 9 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Dodgers continued their mastery of the Reds on Tuesday with an 8-2 rout, running their winning streak to seven games over Cincinnati dating to last season. Los Angeles is 13-4 against Cincinnati since the start of the 2019 season. Anderson (8-0, 2.82 ERA) nearly made history in his start against the Los Angeles Angels last Wednesday, as he had issued just two walks and struck out eight before yielding a triple to Shohei Ohtani on his 123rd and final pitch. The Dodgers emerged with a 4-1 win. Before his near-no-hitter, Anderson threw 28 straight scoreless innings from May 17 against the Arizona Diamondbacks to June 9 against the Chicago White Sox. Lifetime in four appearances (three starts) against Cincinnati, Anderson is 2-0 with a 3.13 ERA. The Reds will counter on Wednesday with right-hander Luis Castillo (2-4, 3.33). |
06-22-22 | Diamondbacks v. Padres -154 | 4-10 | Win | 100 | 6 h 32 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Veteran left-hander Madison Bumgarner (3-6, 3.45 ERA) will start for Arizona against a possible Padres piggyback of starter Mike Clevinger (1-0, 3.77) and Nick Martinez (2-3, 4.03). While Bumgarner is set for his 15th start of the season and is coming off his first win since May 10, Clevinger will be making only his second start since May 17. Pitching isn't the Padres' biggest concern. The Diamondbacks amassed just three runs on nine hits the past two nights, and they didn't manage a hit or a run in five innings against the San Diego bullpen on Tuesday. However, Bumgarner has always had issues with the Padres and has yet to post a win over San Diego in a Diamondbacks uniform. Bumgarner has a 13-13 career record against the Padres with a 3.72 ERA in 42 appearances (41 starts). As a member of the Diamondbacks, Bumgarner is 0-3 with a 6.35 ERA against the Padres in six starts. |
06-22-22 | Phillies -130 v. Rangers | 2-4 | Loss | -130 | 6 h 34 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Wheeler will face the Rangers for the second time this season. On May 4, he tossed 7 2/3 shutout innings, striking out seven in a no-decision. He scattered six hits while walking one. The Rangers scored twice in the 10th inning and won 2-1. In three career starts against Texas, Wheeler is 1-0 with a 0.86 ERA, having yielded just two runs in 21 innings. Gray will be making his 12th start of the season but just his third at home. In 12 2/3 innings at Globe Life Field, he is 1-0 with a 3.55 ERA. In his nine road starts, he is 1-3 with a 4.47 ERA. This will be Gray's second meeting with the Phillies. On May 3 at Philadelphia, the veteran was not involved in the decision in the Rangers' 6-4 win. In three innings, he gave up three runs on five hits with one walk and three strikeouts. |
06-21-22 | Mets +120 v. Astros | 2-8 | Loss | -100 | 6 h 15 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units While Houston pitching has typically been lights out this season, Urquidy looks like the weak link for now and gets a tough challenge here. Williams can give the Mets some decent enough innings as he's been effective in a swingman role, and the New York offense will continue to provide plenty of run support. After turning in three strong seasons to begin his career, Urquidy has seen a massive jump in hard contact allowed in 2022, leading to a 133 ERA- /123 FIP- for the campaign. Williams has quietly turned in strong numbers despite bouncing back and forth between the rotation and bullpen. There won't be too many opportunities to get plus odds on the Mets this season, and they have value against the struggling Urquidy. |
06-21-22 | Guardians v. Twins -150 | 6-5 | Loss | -150 | 2 h 30 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Guardians are playing well but this pitching matchup favors Minnesota. The Twins are playing well, especially at home where they have recorded a victory in four out of their last six games. These bouts occurred against the Yankees and Rays. Guardians’ starter Aaron Civale is having a horrible season. He has surrendered four or more runs in four out of his last five starts and enters with an inflated 7.85 ERA. Furthermore, Twins’ starter Joe Ryan is reliable. The right-hander has allowed two or fewer runs in seven of his nine starts on the season. He already limited Cleveland to one run in a 3-1 win last month. |
06-21-22 | Giants v. Braves -165 | 12-10 | Loss | -165 | 5 h 13 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Anthony DeSclafani will come off the 60-day injured list to make his first start since April 21 when the visiting San Francisco Giants try to stop the Atlanta Braves tonight in the second game of a four-game series. The veteran right-hander has been out due to right-ankle inflammation and has missed 53 games. DeSclafani (0-1, 6.08 ERA) will face Atlanta rookie right-hander Spencer Strider (3-2, 2.45). DeSclafani has made seven career starts against Atlanta, going 1-4 with a 4.54 ERA. He lost both of his starts against the Braves last year, most recently falling on Sept. 19, when he gave up two runs in six innings. |
06-21-22 | Yankees -163 v. Rays | 4-5 | Loss | -163 | 5 h 21 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Bettors have to pay a premium to back New York in a normal season due to its fan base and public money. It is even more expensive to back the Yankees this season, as they are the best team in baseball. I am willing to pay the premium on Tuesday night, though. This is a complete mismatch no matter which way you slice it. New York has the much better pitching situation, a much better lineup and is in much better form. The Yankees have already won five out of seven meetings between these teams heading into Monday night’s game, and I expect their dominance to continue on Tuesday. |
06-21-22 | Nationals v. Orioles -122 | 3-0 | Loss | -122 | 5 h 4 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Baltimore is a respectable 6-4 in their last ten games and 17-16 at home this season. The Nationals are floundering, losers of 8 of their last ten games. On the road this season, the Nats are 12-20 overall. Fedde is coming off of a game in which he threw a season-high 111 pitches and threw nearly 100 (98) in the start before. This represents, by far, the largest two-game pitch count for Fedde this season. He has made six starts on the road and is 2-2 with a 4.71 ERA and has struck out just 3 batters per game. Lyles will come into this game with an additional two days of rest and should be fresh and ready to roll. Fedde's inability to keep balls out of play could become a big issue in the smaller confines of Camden Yards. Look for Baltimore to put up some good offensive numbers and stay above .500 at home this season. |
06-21-22 | Dodgers -170 v. Reds | 8-2 | Win | 100 | 5 h 1 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Reds have lost eight of their last 11 games and five straight home games. They have struggled offensively, scoring 10 runs in their last three games. Expect their offensive struggles to continue in this game because they don’t hit the ball as well against right-handers and Gonsolin has been great on the mound for the Dodgers, giving up one run in his last three starts. He didn’t give up a run when he faced the Reds in April and will keep their offense in check once again. The Dodgers have won three of their last five games and they’ve been rolling offensively, scoring 12 runs in their last three starts. They hit the ball well against right-handers and they’re facing a starter that has struggled on the mound, giving up 12 runs in his last four home starts, and won’t have trouble scoring against him, so go with the Dodgers to win big here. |
06-20-22 | Royals v. Angels -185 | 6-2 | Loss | -185 | 12 h 1 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Right-hander Noah Syndergaard (4-5, 3.53 ERA) will be on the mound for the Angels today to make his 11th start of the season. He has lost his last three starts but hasn't pitched badly. He gave up five runs in 2 1/3 innings in a loss to the Yankees on May 31 but allowed just one run in six innings to Boston on June 6 and one run in 4 2/3 innings to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday. Syndergaard is 2-1 with a 2.50 ERA in three career starts against the Royals. Left-hander Kris Bubic (0-4, 8.36) will make his ninth start of the year for Kansas City. He has faced the Angels once, getting tagged for the loss in a game last season when he gave up six runs in four innings. |
06-20-22 | Avalanche v. Lightning -106 | 2-6 | Win | 100 | 9 h 30 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Avalanche have controlled the series thus far and look to win the upcoming game to take a commanding 3-0 series lead. The problem is that the Lightning return to their home ice and look to bounce back with their backs to the wall in the series. The Lightning offense should rebound after being shutout in Game Two and pile on the goals with Nikita Kucherov, Ondrej Palat, and the rest of the forward unit establishing a strong offensive zone presence and creating open shots on the net with great centering passes. The Lightning should also limit the Avalanche offense with Victor Hedman, Jan Rutta, and the rest of the defensive unit stepping up at the blue line to limit the Avalanche from creating open shots on the rush while also limiting shooting lanes, allowing goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy to step up and blanks shots on the net. The Lightning should win Game Three in a much-needed bounce-back performance. |
06-20-22 | Blue Jays -118 v. White Sox | 7-8 | Loss | -118 | 10 h 51 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Right-hander Lance Lynn (0-0, 6.23 ERA) will get the call for Chicago in his second start after opening the season on the injured list. Lynn is 1-3 with a 4.21 ERA in nine career appearances against Toronto, including eight starts. Righty Jose Berrios (5-2, 4.65) will start for the Blue Jays. Formerly with the Minnesota Twins, Berrios is 12-5 with a 3.12 ERA in 21 starts against the White Sox, his highest win total against any opponent. |
06-20-22 | Yankees -124 v. Rays | 4-2 | Win | 100 | 6 h 24 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Gerrit Cole (6-1, 3.33) will look to beat the Rays for the second time in a week when he makes his third start of the season against them. After a no-decision on May 28 (one run and two hits in six innings), the right-hander was even better Tuesday. He was triumphant with six shutout innings, allowing five hits and a walk with seven strikeouts. The third-place Rays will send out Shane McClanahan (7-3, 1.84 ERA). In five career starts against New York, the left-handed ace is 1-3 with a 3.70 ERA, with the Yankees hitting .278. |

06-19-22 | Twins -116 v. Diamondbacks | 1-7 | Loss | -116 | 6 h 58 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Twins have won four of their last seven games and four of their last seven road games. They play well offensively on the road where they are averaging more than four runs per game. They hit the ball well against right-handers and they’re facing a starter that has struggled in recent starts, giving up 14 runs in his last five starts, and will play well offensively in this game. The Diamondbacks have lost four of their last seven games and three of their last five home games. Even though they are playing well offensively, they don’t hit the ball well against right-handers and Archer has been great on the mound for the Twins, giving up only three runs in his last three starts, and won’t have trouble keeping their offense in check. |
06-19-22 | Yankees -149 v. Blue Jays | 9-10 | Loss | -149 | 4 h 58 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Yankees continue to shine, winning eight out of their last nine games overall and are benefiting from spectacular pitching. Yankees’ starter Luis Severino is reliable. He has allowed either zero or one run in four out of his last five starts. Furthermore, Blue Jays’ starter Yusei Kikuchi is scuffling. He has surrendered 11 runs in his last three starts spanning only 9.1 innings. Toronto has not fared well against the Yankees pitching this season, averaging only 2.5 runs in the 10 meetings against the rivals. |
06-19-22 | Cardinals v. Red Sox -139 | 4-6 | Win | 100 | 4 h 59 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Andre Pallante has a bright future in the big leagues if he stays on track. He isn’t afraid of the moment, and he’s made some big-time throws with the spotlight hanging overhead. But today’s game against the Red Sox at Fenway Park will without question be his toughest start. It’s a difficult spot to be in on the road against one of the league’s most explosive offensive teams. Keep in mind, that this is also an offense that couldn’t get anything going on Saturday night. So there will be plenty of motivation at the plate for the Red Sox to respond to that last game with a much better overall offensive showing. Pivetta won’t be as efficient as he was against Oakland, but he’ll turn in a good enough effort at Fenway Park with the Red Sox offense stealing the bigger headlines. |
06-19-22 | Rays -134 v. Orioles | 1-2 | Loss | -134 | 4 h 49 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units This pitching matchup heavily favors Tampa Bay. Rays' starter Corey Kluber has been dominant recently, allowing a total of only five runs in his last four starts spanning 23 innings of work. He features a strong 3.07 career ERA against the O’s. Orioles’ starter Jordan Lyles continues to struggle. The right-hander has surrendered 17 runs in his last four starts (19.2 innings). The Rays scored five runs against him in a 5-3 win earlier this season. |
06-19-22 | Phillies -164 v. Nationals | 3-9 | Loss | -164 | 3 h 35 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Hard to go against the Phillies in this matchup, particularly when comparing the Phillies' win streak to the Nationals losing streak. While Eflin has been less than stellar on the road, he was decent enough in his last start. Eflin went just 4 innings but allowed only one run and 3 hits. His downfall was pitch count as he surpassed 90 pitches through four innings. Even if Eflin duplicates that feat here, that should do the trick for Philadelphia. Tetrault is making just his second big league start and the first one was vastly ineffective. After allowing three home runs to the Braves, he can't feel good about matching up with the equally powerful Phillies in this spot. Philadelphia should benefit from the return of Bryce Harper after the reigning MVP had to sit out Saturday with a blister on his left hand. |
06-18-22 | Lightning +138 v. Avalanche | 0-7 | Loss | -100 | 9 h 53 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Avalanche controlled the majority of Game One and look to win once again on their home ice to take a 2-0 series lead. The problem is that the Lightning flipped the momentum of Game One and after forcing overtime, look to step up and overwhelm the Avalanche on both ends of the ice. The Lightning, who scored twice in the second period, should find the back of the net throughout the game with Steven Stamkos, Ondrej Palat, and the rest of the forward unit establishing a strong offensive zone presence and creating open shots with great puck movement and strong passes near the net. The Lightning should also limit the Avalanche offense with Victor Hedman, Jan Rutta, and the rest of the defensive unit stepping up and creating turnovers at the blue line while cutting off angles to the net on the rush to limit the Avalanche speed, allowing goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy to once again step up and make plenty of big saves in the net. The Lightning should win Game Two to even up the series while providing great odds in the process as road Underdogs. |
06-18-22 | Brewers -102 v. Reds | 7-3 | Win | 100 | 5 h 11 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Brewers have Jason Alexander on the mound and he has been great. The rookie has limited his opponents to a total of five runs (four earned) in 16.2 innings pitched on the season. Reds’ starter Graham Ashcraft just surrendered four runs in 4.2 innings against the Cardinals last time out. The Brewers have fared well against the Reds this season. They stand at 5-2 against the rivals this season including a 5-4 win on Friday. The Brew Crew are having no issues generating offense, scoring at least five runs in all seven of those meetings. |
06-18-22 | Marlins v. Mets -170 | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 4 h 41 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Braxton Garrett is only in his third start this season, and it’s asking a lot of him to go on the road and stave off the explosive bats of the Mets at Citi Field. That plan didn’t turn out too well for Pablo Lopez on Friday night. Garrett will crack at some point, and the relief help won’t be too far behind him. The Marlins’ bullpen has the seventh-worst ERA (4.49) in the league. That’s a real problem against a Mets team that can change an entire game at the snap of a finger, especially when playing at home. The Mets have only lost nine games on their home field this season, and they’ll be running into a Marlins team with the second-least wins in the entire NL East division. This game has bad matchup written all over it just like the opener. |
06-18-22 | Giants -170 v. Pirates | 7-5 | Win | 100 | 5 h 10 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Pirates have lost nine of their last 10 games and three of their last five home games. They’ve struggled offensively, scoring only eight runs in their last three games. They don’t hit the ball well against left-handers and they’re going up against Wood, who has pitched well in recent starts, giving up five runs in his last three starts. He gave up two runs in his last two starts against the Pirates and will keep their offense in check once again. The Giants have won five of their last six games and five of their last eight road games. They’re playing well offensively, scoring 12 runs in their last three games. They hit the ball well against left-handers and they’re facing a starter that has struggled on the mound, giving up 10 runs in his last three starts. He gave up 12 runs in his last four starts against the Giants and will have a hard time slowing them down, |
06-18-22 | Rays -146 v. Orioles | 7-6 | Win | 100 | 5 h 59 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Expect the better team to bounce back in a big way today. The Rays have lost six of their last seven, but have had a tough schedule, with three of those losses coming to the Yankees and two against the Twins. They will be sending Jeffrey Springs to the mound today who was the last Rays pitcher to earn a win. Springs has a 1.90 ERA in seven road games and 0.57 ERA in seven daytime games this season, and has had career dominance against the Orioles. Tampa Bay has won 10 of the last 13 games over the Orioles in Baltimore, and their bats should break out enough against Bradish and get the win. |
06-18-22 | Yankees +121 v. Blue Jays | 4-0 | Win | 121 | 4 h 54 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Manoah has been rock solid this season and is unbeaten in his career at Rogers Centre. The problem for the Blue Jays is that they are dealing with a Yankees team that is winning three-quarters of their games on the season. There are no soft spots in the lineup for the Bronx Bombers and their pitching has been terrific all year long. Taillon is having a stellar season and the Yankees are doing a great job of run prevention. Toronto’s bullpen has had its struggles that could prove problematic once Manoah leaves the game. He keeps the Blue Jays in it but the Yankees’ offensive depth proves to be the difference as they get the victory here. |
06-18-22 | Braves -170 v. Cubs | 3-6 | Loss | -170 | 4 h 0 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units It is nearly impossible not to continue to ride with the Braves as they get set to battle the struggling Cubs on Saturday. Steele comes in with just 1 win to his credit and the Cubs are just 4-8 in games that he's started this season. Meanwhile, Wright has won two straight and is tied or leads the team in wins, quality starts, strikeouts, ERA and WHIP. Wright dominated the Cubs in his matchup with them earlier this season by going 7 innings and allowing 3 hits and one run while striking out 8 batters. The Cubs have also been miserable at home this season while the Braves have won 8 straight on the road prior to Friday's game. Look for the Braves to back Wright with enough support to win this game comfortably. |
06-17-22 | Twins -121 v. Diamondbacks | 2-7 | Loss | -121 | 9 h 52 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units This is a well-rounded Twins team that is only getting healthier, and they should have enough to handle a Diamondbacks squad that is in the bottom 10 in both runs scored and allowed. Smeltzer is getting undervalued here as he has pitched surprisingly well, while predictive metrics indicate that Bumgarner should continue to fall off. While Bumgarner was getting some strong results earlier in the season to help his ERA, he has slowed down over his last seven starts, and a 127 FIP- doesn't bode well moving forward. Arizona doesn't provide much run support either with an 88 wRC+ that is in the bottom five of the league, so this will be a tough matchup against a much better Twins offense. Some mechanical tweaks have helped out Smeltzer this year, and he is enjoying the best stretch of his career with numbers like a 0.97 WHIP and 2.02 opponent's average. The Twins are a significantly better team than Arizona in all facets and will be able to get to Bumgarner in this one. |
06-17-22 | Padres -136 v. Rockies | 4-10 | Loss | -136 | 10 h 59 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Kyle Freeland (2-5, 4.39 ERA) will start for the Rockies while the Padres will send MacKenzie Gore (4-2, 2.50) to the mound in a battle of lefties in today's series opener. The Padres finished a road sweep of the Chicago Cubs with a 6-4 win on Thursday. It was the first time they swept a four-game series at Wrigley Field since August 2010. San Diego has won eight of its past 10 and at 41-24 owns the best 65-game start in franchise history. The Padres also moved into sole possession of first place in the National League West with their Thursday win. The seven-game home losing streak isn't the only dubious mark the Rockies have. They committed two errors Thursday in a 4-2 loss to the Guardians, and they have made at least one error in their past 13 home games, which is a franchise record. It's the longest such streak in the majors since the 2000 Oakland A's had a miscue in 15 straight home games. |
06-17-22 | Cardinals v. Red Sox -109 | 5-6 | Win | 100 | 7 h 33 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Wainwright hasn't recorded a decision in three consecutive seven-inning starts. He struck out seven while allowing eight hits and three runs against the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday. Wacha (4-1, 2.33 ERA) is no stranger to the team he will be facing, having come up in the St. Louis organization and pitched parts of seven seasons for the Cardinals. He will be starting against them for the first time. Wacha's 2.33 ERA and .195 opponent batting average are tops among Boston starters. The 30-year-old Iowa native has allowed two runs or fewer in eight of his 10 starts, in which the Red Sox are 6-2. Wacha pitched a complete-game shutout against the Angels on June 6. |
06-17-22 | Braves -163 v. Cubs | 0-1 | Loss | -163 | 4 h 6 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Atlanta Braves still haven't lost a game in June. Meanwhile, it only seems like the Chicago Cubs are winless this month. The visiting Braves can match a modern-era franchise record with their 15th consecutive victory Friday, while also trying to extend the Cubs' season-high losing streak to 11. Atlanta lost back-to-back games at Arizona on the last two days of May to sit at 23-27. Since then, the Braves have averaged 7.2 runs, clubbed 35 homers, posted a plus-60 run differential (101-41) and own an ERA of 2.72 during their 14-game winning streak -- one shy of the club mark set in 2000. Chicago's Keegan Thompson (6-2, 3.67) makes his fifth straight start, looking to get back on track after allowing 10 runs and eight hits over just 3 2/3 innings of his last two. Thompson, 3-2 with a 6.26 ERA in six 2022 starts, yielded five runs -- three earned -- while facing just nine batters in 2/3 inning Sunday before being pulled in an 18-4 loss to the New York Yankees. |
06-17-22 | Phillies -180 v. Nationals | 5-3 | Win | 100 | 3 h 45 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units In the doubleheader opener, left-hander Ranger Suarez (4-4, 4.40 ERA) will start for the Phillies and right-hander Joan Adon (1-10, 6.95) will return to the majors for Washington. Suarez, 26, is 0-3 over his last five starts and gave up four runs (two earned) and four hits over 4 1/3 innings on Sunday while losing to the Arizona Diamondbacks. He is 2-0 with a 1.42 ERA in eight appearances (one start) against the Nationals. Adon, who has never faced Philadelphia, leads the major leagues in losses and is 0-8 over his past nine starts. The 23-year-old was torched for eight runs and seven hits in three-plus innings while losing to the Miami Marlins in his last outing on June 7. |
06-16-22 | Warriors v. Celtics -162 | 103-90 | Loss | -162 | 9 h 30 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Boston hasn’t lost back-to-back games at home this postseason, and they are 3-0 in elimination games. The key for Boston will be taking care of the basketball, as the Celtics are 1-7 in the playoffs when they have 15 or more turnovers. Boston’s home fans will be chomping at the bit to make today’s atmosphere an electric one, the Celtics have what it takes to force a Game 7. |
06-16-22 | Rangers -151 v. Tigers | 3-1 | Win | 100 | 8 h 34 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Detroit Tigers' offense has been nowhere to be found for much of the season. Fresh off being shut out for the ninth time this year, the Tigers will look to get it in gear today in the opener of a four-game series against the visiting Texas Rangers. Detroit will look to change the narrative today against Texas left-hander Martin Perez (4-2, 2.18 ERA), who boasted a majors-best 1.56 ERA before struggling mightily in his last outing. Perez surrendered season highs in runs (seven) and hits (12) in a no-decision against the White Sox on Saturday. The Rangers rallied to win the game 11-9 in 10 innings. |
06-16-22 | Brewers v. Mets -125 | 4-5 | Win | 100 | 7 h 10 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The visiting Brewers will look to win consecutive games for the first time this month tonight, when they oppose the New York Mets in the finale of a three-game series. Left-hander Aaron Ashby (1-5, 3.91 ERA) is scheduled to take the mound for the Brewers against Mets right-hander Tylor Megill (4-2, 4.50 ERA). June has gone reasonably well for the Mets, who went 5-5 on a 10-game West Coast road trip from June 2 through Sunday and are 8-6 this month to move their overall record to 41-23 (including 20-9 at home). Ashby took a loss on Friday, when he gave up six runs on 13 hits over 4 2/3 innings as the Brewers fell 11-5 to the Washington Nationals. |
06-16-22 | Padres -159 v. Cubs | 6-4 | Win | 100 | 5 h 48 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units After winning 4-1 on Monday in the series opener, San Diego pounded out 36 hits while outscoring the Cubs 31-10 over the past two games. The Padres, who posted their highest run total of the season on Wednesday in a 19-5 rout, last swept a road set from the Cubs in 2010 -- also spanning four games. They would appear in good shape to repeat that feat with Musgrove (7-0, 1.50 ERA) on the mound. The right-hander has been the star of an exceptional San Diego rotation, ranking among the major league leaders in ERA, opponents' batting average (.196) and WHIP (0.93). Musgrove has allowed one run over 27 innings while going 3-0 in his past four starts. He hasn't yielded a run in 16 consecutive innings, 14 covering his last two starts against Milwaukee and Colorado. Musgrove has fared well against the Cubs, posting a 1.97 ERA and .181 opponents' batting average. |
06-16-22 | A's v. Red Sox -167 | 4-3 | Loss | -167 | 2 h 48 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units After Winckowski filled a rotation hole with Garrett Whitlock (hip) and Nathan Eovaldi (back) landing on the injured list in the past week, the Red Sox will turn to a usual starter today, Rich Hill (2-3, 4.38 ERA). The left-hander has 33 strikeouts and just seven walks over his past eight starts. Hill's latest two outings have resulted in Boston victories, though the 42-year-old took a no-decision on Friday in Seattle after striking out six in 4 1/3 innings of five-hit, two-run ball. On June 5, Hill held the A's to one run on three hits in six-plus frames for a 5-2 victory. Oakland is slated to start righty Paul Blackburn (5-2, 2.31 ERA) opposite Hill. Blackburn's only previous start against Boston came on June 4, when he was charged with four runs and seven hits in four-plus innings during an eventual 8-0 loss. The A's have now lost 13 of 14, including seven of eight on their current nine-game road trip. |
06-15-22 | Pirates v. Cardinals -165 | 6-4 | Loss | -165 | 6 h 10 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Cardinals won the first three games at Busch Stadium -- 7-5 on Monday, and 3-1 and 9-1 in Tuesday's doubleheader. They have won eight of their last nine home games. Flaherty (9-2, 3.22 ERA in 2021) has been sidelined all season by shoulder bursitis. The Cardinals originally scheduled him for one more rehabilitation start at Triple-A Memphis with a 75-pitch limit as he continued his comeback. Flaherty believes he has turned his shoulder clock back to 2019, when he posted a 2.75 ERA. The Cardinals' data supports that positive assessment. That's not good news for the Pirates, since Flaherty is 8-1 with a 2.22 ERA in 11 career starts against them. The Pirates have plunged into a nine-game losing streak. They are 1-8 against the Cardinals in 2022 and 8-20 against them the last two seasons. |
06-15-22 | A's v. Red Sox -174 | 1-10 | Win | 100 | 3 h 29 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units James Kaprielian (0-3, 5.73) will look to break the longest losing streak of his career when he starts against Boston for the second time this season. The right-hander is 1-2 with a 3.12 ERA in 17 1/3 innings over his first three starts against the Red Sox. In a June 3 loss, he allowed four runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings. Kaprielian, who began the season on the injured list with an inflamed right AC joint, has allowed 14 runs in 19 2/3 innings over his last four starts. That stretch included a Thursday no-decision during which he pitched five innings of two-run ball against Cleveland, allowing back-to-back home runs in the fourth. |
06-15-22 | Braves -184 v. Nationals | 8-2 | Win | 100 | 6 h 6 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Atlanta Braves attempt to match the second-longest winning streak in franchise history when they visit the Washington Nationals today in the finale of a three-game series. The Braves have pounded 10 homers while winning the first two games of the series to stretch their run to 13. Finishing the sweep would allow Atlanta to equal the 14-game winning streak put together by the 2013 Braves. The Braves will call on right-hander Spencer Strider (2-2, 2.35 ERA) to keep the winning streak going. The outing will be Strider's fourth start in 15 appearances this season. He won his last outing when he gave up four hits over 5 2/3 scoreless innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday. Strider, 23, gave up one run and three hits in 3 1/3 innings of relief against the Nationals on April 11. Washington will counter with right-hander Erick Fedde (4-4, 4.87), who has traditionally struggled with the Braves. Fedde is 0-4 with a 10.80 ERA in eight career appearances (seven starts) against Atlanta. He has served up 10 homers while allowing 50 hits in just 31 2/3 innings. Ozuna (6-for-9) and Adam Duvall (7-for-15) each have hit two homers off Fedde. Austin Riley is 6-for-15 with two doubles. |
06-15-22 | Twins -136 v. Mariners | 5-0 | Win | 100 | 4 h 51 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Sonny Gray was in a groove, but then he landed on the injured list for the second time this season. The Minnesota right-hander is scheduled to return to the mound this afternoon when the Twins wrap up a three-game road series against the Seattle Mariners. Gray (3-1, 2.41 ERA) retired 18 of the 20 batters he faced in a May 29 start against visiting the Kansas City Royals before leaving with a right pectoral strain. Gray, acquired from the Cincinnati Reds during spring training, had won three consecutive starts when he returned to the IL. In five May outings, he allowed five runs over 27 1/3 innings (1.65 ERA), with seven walks and 34 strikeouts. The Mariners are set to counter Wednesday with lefty Marco Gonzales (3-6, 3.63), who is 0-3 with a 9.37 ERA in four career starts against the Twins. He lasted just two innings in a 10-4 loss April 10 in Minneapolis, though just two of the six runs he allowed were earned. |
06-15-22 | White Sox v. Tigers -106 | 13-0 | Loss | -106 | 1 h 14 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Rookie Alex Faedo has consistently kept the Detroit Tigers close since he was called up from Triple-A Toledo. He will look to keep that streak going in the finale of a three-game home series against the Chicago White Sox on this afternoon. Faedo (1-2, 2.92 ERA) has pitched five or more innings in each of his seven starts and has given up two or fewer runs in all of the contests. He is the first pitcher to do that in his first seven major league starts since Jered Weaver managed it for the Los Angeles Angels in 2006. Chicago will go with Vince Velasquez, who officially was activated on Wednesday morning from the 15-day injured list. Velasquez had been sidelined due to a left groin injury, but he threw a simulated game on Saturday. Velasquez (2-3, 5.30) is 1-1 with a 4.05 ERA in three career starts against the Tigers. The White Sox won't have closer Liam Hendricks available for the next two weeks. He was placed on the injured list on Tuesday because of a forearm strain. |
06-15-22 | Marlins v. Phillies -167 | 1-3 | Win | 100 | 1 h 57 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Philadelphia should be able to take advantage of Miami's lackluster lineup. The Marlins are below the National League average in runs scored, hits, on-base percentage and myriad additional categories. From there, Miami has the third-fewest doubles and the third-fewest walks in the NL this season. Gibson should benefit, and he has a 3.63 ERA in home starts and a 3.54 in day games this season. Gibson also effectively slows left-handed hitters, holding them to a .589 combined OPS. The Phillies also land in the top five of the NL in runs scored, greatly outpacing Miami in overall offensive firepower. The Phillies are in the top three of the NL in home runs (80), slugging percentage (.426) and OPS (.745) this season, and Philadelphia also has 38 stolen bases, a top-five mark in the league. |
06-14-22 | Padres -128 v. Cubs | 12-5 | Win | 100 | 9 h 52 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Padres are off to the franchise's best 62-game start (38-24), and their 21-11 road mark leads the major leagues. San Diego has a 3.27 ERA, the second-lowest mark in the NL, which helps when its offense has totaled 10 runs while splitting the past four contests. The Padres could face a serious challenge vs. Hendricks (2-5, 5.22 ERA), who is 8-2 with a 2.67 ERA in 12 starts against them. He allowed three hits with a walk and struck out seven over a season-high 8 2/3 innings during Chicago's 6-0 win at San Diego on May 9. Hendricks, though, is 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA in his past three overall starts and 0-2 with an 8.04 ERA in his past three at home, where he was 1-0 with a 1.62 ERA in his first three outings this season. He hasn't pitched since allowing three runs and six hits in five innings during the Cubs' 4-3, 10-inning win over the Milwaukee Brewers on June 1. Hendricks earned some extra rest due to shoulder fatigue but appears ready to go. Even so, it might not matter how well Hendricks throws the ball if the Cubs continue to struggle at the plate. A dismal 11-21 at Wrigley Field, the worst home mark in the National League, Chicago has been outscored 53-16 during its current season-high, seven-game slide. Facing scheduled San Diego starter Sean Manaea (3-3, 3.52 ERA) likely won't make things any easier. The left-hander is off to a strong start in June, having allowed three runs (two earned) and eight hits with five walks while fanning 11 in 13 innings over two starts. Manaea recorded his first winning decision since April 18 when he gave two runs (one earned) and three hits in seven innings during San Diego's 13-2 rout of the visiting New York Mets on Wednesday. |
06-14-22 | Astros -118 v. Rangers | 4-3 | Win | 100 | 5 h 16 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Right-hander Jose Urquidy (5-3, 5.04 ERA) will start for the Astros against Rangers right-hander Dane Dunning (1-4, 4.41). Dunning is 0-1 against the Astros with a 5.40 ERA in three career meetings, two of them starts. He surrendered two runs on five hits in 5 2/3 innings against Houston in a no-decision on April 25. Urquidy has never lost to the Rangers, posting four wins and a 1.60 ERA in five appearances (all starts). He beat Texas on May 22, allowing one run on six hits in 6 2/3 innings with 10 strikeouts. |
06-14-22 | White Sox -180 v. Tigers | 5-1 | Win | 100 | 9 h 38 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Whether or not he admits it, Chicago White Sox right-hander Dylan Cease gets to face his favorite team today. Cease, who has been lights out against the Tigers in 10 career starts, will start against them in the second game of a three-game series at Detroit. The 26-year-old right-hander is 9-0 with a 2.08 ERA vs. the Tigers, notching 67 strikeouts and walking just 17 in 56 1/3 innings. At Detroit's Comerica Park, he has won all five of his outings while posting a 2.33 ERA and striking out 34 in 27 innings. In his first start this season, he held the Tigers to one run on two hits and struck out eight in five-plus innings. In a statistical oddity, Cease (4-3, 3.14 ERA) has allowed a total of nine runs in his past three starts, but none have been earned. |

06-14-22 | Braves -1.5 v. Nationals | 10-4 | Win | 100 | 3 h 10 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Braves will turn today to left-hander Max Fried (6-2, 2.64 ERA), who is coming off two of his best starts of the season. He threw eight shutout innings against the Colorado Rockies on June 3 in Denver, then allowed a run on eight hits with eight strikeouts and no walks over six innings in a 3-1 win over the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday. Atlanta is 8-2 in Fried's past 10 starts. However, Fried has had mixed success against the Nationals throughout his career. Washington will counter with 26-year-old right-hander Jackson Tetreault, who will make his major league debut. Manager Dave Martinez chose Tetreault over Josiah Gray, who was scratched from his start on Monday after the game's first pitch was pushed back due to a 93-minute rain delay. The Nationals have lost five of their past seven games. |
06-14-22 | Pirates v. Cardinals -155 | 1-3 | Win | 100 | 3 h 49 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units JT Brubaker will seek a breakthrough victory when the slumping Pittsburgh Pirates face the St. Louis Cardinals in a day-night doubleheader today. Brubaker (0-6, 4.60 ERA) will start the opener in St. Louis. He hasn't won since Aug. 24, 2021, when the Pirates defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-2. Since then, he has made 13 starts without securing a victory. The right-hander is 0-5 with a 6.75 ERA in six career games (five starts) against the Cardinals. When Brubaker last opposed the Cardinals, on April 7, he allowed four runs on four hits and three walks in three innings during a 9-0 defeat. |
06-13-22 | Reds v. Diamondbacks -144 | 5-4 | Loss | -144 | 10 h 21 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Right-hander Merrill Kelly will try for his second win over Cincinnati in six days when the host Arizona Diamondbacks open a six-game homestand with a three-game series against the Reds tonight in Phoenix. Kelly (5-3, 3.32 ERA) allowed the Reds just one hit in six innings in a 7-0 victory over the Reds on Wednesday night in Cincinnati. Veteran left-hander Mike Minor (0-2, 8.64 ERA), who took the loss in Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks, will make his third start of the season. He allowed three runs on three hits, including a two-run homer to Walker and a solo blast by Rojas, over 4 1/3 innings. Minor walked three and struck out four. |
06-13-22 | Astros -153 v. Rangers | 3-5 | Loss | -153 | 8 h 29 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Houston will send right-hander Cristian Javier (3-3, 3.22 ERA) to the mound while the Rangers counter with left-hander Taylor Hearn (4-4, 5.40). Javier is 4-1 all-time against Texas with a 2.74 ERA in 10 appearances, including six starts. He is 1-1 vs. the Rangers, most recently losing on May 20 in Houston despite allowing just one run on three hits in six innings while striking out nine. Hearn is 2-2 with a 3.62 ERA in nine games against Houston, including four starts. Both of the losses came this season. He allowed four runs on five hits in five innings on April 26 in Arlington, and four runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings on May 22 in Houston. |
06-13-22 | White Sox -124 v. Tigers | 9-5 | Win | 100 | 8 h 45 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Veteran right-hander Lance Lynn is expected to be activated from the injured list to start the series opener for the White Sox. Lynn (11-6, 2.69 ERA in 2021) has been sidelined all season with a right knee injury. Lynn is 6-3 with an ERA of 3.21 and 59 strikeouts in nine career starts against Detroit. He has won four consecutive starts against the Tigers. He'll be opposed by right-hander Rony Garcia (0-1, 4.50), who will be making his 12th appearance and fourth start this season. The 24-year-old gave up two runs on four hits in five innings against the New York Yankees on June 5 and didn't figure into the decision in the 5-4, 10-inning loss. In his first appearance this season, Garcia tossed 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief against the White Sox. However, he has a 9.82 ERA in five career relief outings against Chicago. |
06-13-22 | Marlins +117 v. Phillies | 2-3 | Loss | -100 | 5 h 45 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Phillies will hand the ball to right-hander Aaron Nola (4-4, 3.50 ERA) to start the three-game series with the Marlins. Nola holds a 4-8 record and a 3.59 ERA in 17 career starts against the Marlins. Closer Corey Knebel is day-to-day as he deals with right shoulder soreness. Sandy Alcantara (6-2, 1.61) is scheduled to start for the Marlins. The right-hander has had success in his career against the Phillies with a 6-4 record and a 3.10 ERA in 11 starts. In Alcantara's most recent start against the Washington Nationals on Wednesday, he tossed nine scoreless innings and allowed six hits to go along with six strikeouts and no walks. He didn't figure in the decision as the Marlins won 2-1 in 10 innings. Alcantara extended his stretch of scoreless innings to 18. |
06-12-22 | Dodgers v. Giants +122 | 0-2 | Win | 122 | 6 h 14 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Los Angeles has lost eight of its last 12 games and could use a lengthy outing from left-hander Julio Urias (3-5, 2.78 ERA) today. He allowed one run on three hits over 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the New York Mets on June 5, a game the Dodgers lost 5-4 in 10 innings. While Urias owns an impressive 46-to-15 strikeout-to-walk ratio, he has not pitched more than six innings in any of his first 11 starts. Roberts is looking for Urias to become more efficient, especially in the early innings. Urias, 25, is 3-3 with a 2.41 ERA in 21 career games (15 starts) against the Giants. Austin Slater is 8-for-20 with a home run against Urias, who has limited Darin Ruf to four hits in 19 at-bats. |
06-11-22 | Red Sox +114 v. Mariners | 6-7 | Loss | -100 | 12 h 58 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Wacha (4-1, 1.99 ERA), who is scheduled to start for the Boston Red Sox tonight at Seattle, threw a three-hitter Monday in a 1-0 victory against the host Los Angeles Angels. The right-hander walked one and struck out six in posting only the second shutout of his career. The Mariners are set to counter with rookie right-hander George Kirby (1-1, 3.38). Kirby suffered his first career loss against the host Red Sox on May 19, a 12-6 defeat. Kirby allowed five runs on eight hits in five innings. |
06-11-22 | Mets -129 v. Angels | 6-11 | Loss | -129 | 12 h 23 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Michael Lorenzen (5-3, 3.69 ERA) will make his 10th start of the season for the Angels today. The right-hander is 0-1 with a 3.15 ERA in 11 career games (one start) versus the Mets. Carlos Carrasco (7-1, 3.52) was originally scheduled to start Friday's game but was pushed back today. The right-hander is 3-0 with a 2.02 ERA in 11 career games (five starts) against the Angels. On a team Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer, it's easy to forget about someone like Carrasco. The veteran Carrasco is in his 13th major league season and has more career wins (96) than deGrom (77). |
06-11-22 | Rangers v. Lightning -195 | 1-2 | Win | 100 | 9 h 53 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Lightning, who snapped New York's eight-game home winning streak on Thursday, have won six straight home games. Two of their three wins this round have come on late goals by Palat, who became the first player in NHL history to score a playoff game-winning goal in the last two minutes twice in the same year. The Lightning also scored a late winner against the Florida Panthers last round. The Lightning have an 8-2 record of closing out a series that they lead 3-2. The Rangers have a 7-19 mark when trailing by that margin. Teams that win Game 5 to take a 3-2 lead in Stanley Cup playoffs have gone on to win the series 78.5 percent of the time (223-61). The Lightning have the upper hand and deserve it with the way they played the last three games. |
06-11-22 | Brewers -147 v. Nationals | 6-8 | Loss | -147 | 6 h 59 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Brewers will go with left-hander Eric Lauer (5-1, 2.38 ERA) as their starter today, hoping he can tame the Nationals like he did across seven shutout innings on May 20. That result gave him a 1-1 record and a 2.70 ERA in five career starts vs. Washington. Lauer has allowed just one home run across his past four starts overall, covering 22 innings. That might be significant after the Nationals homered four times in the series opener. Left-hander Patrick Corbin (2-8, 6.71 ERA) will be Washington's starter today. Corbin won his last outing, logging six innings and allowing three runs at Cincinnati on Sunday. He has won two of the past three after a May 21 loss at Milwaukee dropped his season record to 0-7. The key to the Reds game was that he turned in just his second walk-free performance of the season. Corbin has rarely fared well against the Brewers, as he is 3-7 with 4.91 ERA against them in 12 all-time matchups, including 11 starts. |
06-11-22 | Rays -128 v. Twins | 5-6 | Loss | -128 | 3 h 57 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Hard-throwing rookie Shane Baz will make his much-anticipated 2022 debut for Tampa Bay this afternoon when the Rays try to even their series with the Minnesota Twins in Minneapolis. The 22-year-old right-hander, who has touched 100 mph with his fastball and helped lead Team USA to a silver medal in the Tokyo Olympics last summer, is rated the top prospect in Tampa Bay's system and No. 12 overall by MLB.com. Baz will be making his fourth career major league start. He went 2-0 with a 2.03 ERA in three starts at the end of the 2021 season. Right-hander Chi Chi Gonzalez (0-0, 9.00 ERA) will make his second start of the season for Minnesota. Gonzalez, who is 9-23 with a 5.68 ERA in 62 career games and 48 starts, will be facing the Rays for the first time in his career. He allowed three runs, including home runs to George Springer and Vladimir Guerrero Jr., on four hits over three innings in his only previous start this season, a no-decision at Toronto on June 3. |
06-10-22 | Reds v. Cardinals -138 | 0-2 | Win | 100 | 9 h 41 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The St. Louis Cardinals will continue their search for starting pitching today when they call on rookie Andre Pallante to face the Cincinnati Reds. The Cardinals carry a three-game losing streak into the opener of a three-game home series at Busch Stadium while the Reds have lost five of their last seven games. Pallante (1-0, 1.23 ERA) made his first start of the season against the Chicago Cubs during a June 4 doubleheader and allowed one run in four innings. Prior to that, he had made 17 relief appearances this season and posted a 1.07 ERA. |
06-10-22 | A's v. Guardians -159 | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 8 h 54 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Right-hander Triston McKenzie (3-5, 3.10 ERA) will be on the mound for the Guardians today. He will oppose right-hander Paul Blackburn (5-2, 2.62). McKenzie is 1-0 with a 1.46 ERA in two career starts against Oakland. Blackburn is 1-1 with a 4.41 ERA in three career starts against Cleveland, 0-1 with a 11.25 ERA in one start at Progressive Field. The A's managed eight hits in the first game of the series against Cleveland, but they are still batting a major-league-low .210. |
06-10-22 | Diamondbacks v. Phillies -137 | 5-7 | Win | 100 | 9 h 8 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Phillies won their seventh straight game, 8-3, on the road against the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday. They are 6-0 under interim manager Rob Thomson. The Phillies will hand the ball to Kyle Gibson (3-2, 4.40 ERA). Gibson is 2-2 with a 1.50 ERA in four career starts against the Diamondbacks. Zac Gallen (4-1, 2.40 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Diamondbacks. Gallen, who suffered his first loss in the last outing against the Pirates. |
06-09-22 | Red Sox +112 v. Angels | 2-5 | Loss | -100 | 12 h 7 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Shohei Ohtani will be the starting pitcher for the host Los Angeles Angels tonight in Anaheim, Calif., against the Boston Red Sox, looking to end a personal slump on the mound -- and his team's 14-game losing streak. Ohtani (3-4, 3.99 ERA) already has doubled his loss total from last season, when he went 9-2 with a 3.18 ERA on his way to winning the American League MVP Award. He's been particularly off his game during the club's losing streak, giving up nine runs and 14 hits in nine innings in losses to the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees. Right-hander Nick Pivetta (5-4, 3.50 ERA) will be on the mound for Boston to make his 12th start of the season. He's coming off his best start of the year last Saturday against Oakland when he shut out the A's on two hits over seven innings. Pivetta has made a complete turnaround from a slow start to the season, winning five decisions in a row after beginning the year 0-4 with a 7.84 ERA in his first five starts. |
06-09-22 | A's v. Guardians -170 | 4-8 | Win | 100 | 9 h 58 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Athletics arrive in Cleveland for the start of a four-game series against the Guardians tonight having lost eight in a row and 11 of their past 12. Following a 13-2 loss to the host Atlanta Braves on Wednesday that completed a two-game sweep, Oakland owns the second-lowest winning percentage in the majors, .345, ahead of just the Kansas City Royals (.327). Oakland ranks last in the majors in batting (.210), on-base percentage (.274) and slugging percentage (.320). The A's are second-to-last in runs (187) and home runs (34). The A's will face Guardians rookie Konnor Pilkington (1-0, 2.65 ERA) in the series opener on Thursday. The left-hander has never faced Oakland. Right-hander James Kaprielian (0-3, 6.06) will pitch for the A's. He opposed Cleveland for the first time in his season debut, when he took the loss after allowing four runs on three hits in two-plus innings on May 1. |
06-09-22 | Dodgers -120 v. White Sox | 11-9 | Win | 100 | 4 h 36 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Another day, another unbeaten Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher awaiting the Chicago White Sox. After struggling to solve right-hander Tony Gonsolin (7-0) on Wednesday in a 4-1 defeat, the host White Sox will face lefty Tyler Anderson (7-0) today in the rubber game of a three-game interleague series. Anderson enters play with a streak of 26 straight scoreless innings. He extended the stretch Friday with six innings of three-hit ball in a victory against the New York Mets. The 32-year-old veteran, who has a 2.59 ERA, continues to shine after joining the rotation on the heels of injuries to Andrew Heaney and Clayton Kershaw. |
06-09-22 | Cardinals v. Rays -160 | 1-2 | Win | 100 | 2 h 24 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Rays will send Shane McClanahan (6-2, 2.10 ERA) to the mound today to face the Cardinals. McClanahan is proving to be a strong replacement in the No. 1 rotation spot during the absence of Tyler Glasnow, who is rehabbing from Tommy John surgery and likely won't pitch this year. Not only has McClanahan posted ace-like numbers in his sophomore campaign, but he has been at the top of his game of late. In five May starts, the left-hander went 4-0 with a 1.15 ERA over 31 1/3 innings. He allowed four runs on 21 hits while whiffing 39 and walking five. A rare strikeout artist who uses off-speed offerings as his swing-and-miss pitches, McClanahan shut down opposing batters in May to the tune of a .189 average. He opened June with a Friday win over the Chicago White Sox, allowing two runs on six hits and no walks in six innings. McClanahan struck out eight. Overall this season, batters are hitting .201 with eight home runs in 247 plate appearances against McClanahan, who will be facing the Cardinals for the first time in his career. |
06-08-22 | Dodgers -169 v. White Sox | 4-1 | Win | 100 | 9 h 2 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Unbeaten Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Tony Gonsolin enters tonight's start against the host Chicago White Sox with a stingy 1.59 ERA and a .159 opponents' batting average. Right-hander Johnny Cueto (0-2, 2.92 ERA) will seek his first win with the White Sox as he aims to snap a two-game losing streak. Cueto started his Chicago career with 12 shutout innings over two starts but has yielded nine runs (eight earned) in 12 2/3 innings over his past two. Cueto is 9-9 with a 3.76 ERA in 24 career starts against the Dodgers, with 122 strikeouts in 133 innings. Gonsolin hasn't faced the White Sox in his career but boasts success in interleague play, going 3-0 with a 3.24 ERA in six appearances, including four starts. |
06-08-22 | Rangers v. Guardians -150 | 0-4 | Win | 100 | 9 h 42 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The rubber match of the three-game series is today. It will be up to Cleveland ace Shane Bieber (3-3, 3.12 ERA) to try to keep the Rangers in the park. Right-hander Dane Dunning (1-3, 4.11) will start for Texas. Dunning is 0-1 with a 10.29 ERA in two career starts against Cleveland, 0-0 with a 9.00 ERA in one start at Progressive Field. The loss Tuesday night was just the Guardians' second in the past eight games. |
06-08-22 | Mariners +126 v. Astros | 6-3 | Win | 126 | 8 h 51 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Right-hander Jose Urquidy (5-2, 4.76 ERA) will start the rubber match for the Astros today. He has won three of his past four starts despite posting a 5.24 ERA and .939 opponent OPS with five home runs allowed over 22 1/3 innings. Urquidy has walked just four batters in that span but has yielded 35 hits. Still, he has suffered only one loss over his last eight starts and earned the victory in his previous outing when he allowed three runs on five hits and one walk with six strikeouts over six innings in a 10-3 road win over the Royals on June 3. Urquidy is 1-2 with a 5.93 ERA over six career appearances (five starts) against the Mariners. Both of his losses this season have come against Seattle, with Urquidy pitching to an 11.42 ERA and 2.654 WHIP while allowing 12 runs (11 earned) on 20 hits and three walks over 8 2/3 innings. Right-hander Logan Gilbert (5-2, 2.22) has the starting assignment for the Mariners today. The American League Pitcher of the Month for April, Gilbert ranks sixth in the AL in ERA. He did not factor into the decision in his last start after allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and one walk with seven strikeouts in six innings in the Mariners' 4-3 win over the Texas Rangers on June 3, snapping a career-best streak of starts with at least seven innings pitched at three. Gilbert is 1-1 with a 4.71 ERA over four career starts against the Astros. He tossed seven shutout innings against Houston on May 28, allowing four hits with five strikeouts in a 6-0 win. |
06-08-22 | Blue Jays -132 v. Royals | 4-8 | Loss | -132 | 3 h 48 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Royals and Singer (2-1, 4.15 ERA) will oppose the visiting Blue Jays in the finale of a three-game series today. Left-hander Yusei Kikuchi (2-2, 3.91) will start for Toronto. Kansas City is still looking for its first run of the series. The Royals were shut out 7-0 Tuesday night, following Monday's 8-0 whitewash, the first time since May 6-7, 2021, that they were shut out in back-to-back games. It was the their major-league-high eighth shutout loss of the season. Kikuchi had five strong starts in May, compiling a 2-0 record with a 2.36 ERA. |
06-06-22 | Red Sox +103 v. Angels | 1-0 | Win | 103 | 8 h 19 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Right-hander Noah Syndergaard (4-3, 4.02 ERA) will be on the mound for the Angels to make his ninth start of the season. He's coming off a loss his last time out on Tuesday against the New York Yankees, allowing five runs and seven hits in 2 1/3 innings. Syndergaard is 1-1 with a 3.05 ERA in three career starts vs. the Red Sox. Right-hander Michael Wacha (3-1, 2.43) will make his ninth start of the season for Boston. He's coming off a loss his last time out against Cincinnati, even though he allowed just one run (unearned) and three hits in 5 2/3 innings. Wacha and Syndergaard were matched up against each other on May 3 at Fenway Park, and both pitchers threw well. Wacha tossed 5 2/3 scoreless innings and got the victory over Syndergaard, who gave up three runs in seven innings. Wacha is in his first season with Boston after seven years with the Cardinals, one with the Rays and one with the Mets. Wacha is 2-0 with a 0.77 ERA in two career starts against the Angels. |
06-06-22 | Mariners v. Astros -165 | 7-4 | Loss | -165 | 7 h 40 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Right-hander Cristian Javier (3-2, 2.41 ERA) has the starting assignment for Houston on Monday. All five of his decisions have come in his past six starts. Javier is 3-0 with an ERA of 0.40 over six career appearances (three starts) against the Mariners. He threw 5 1/3 scoreless innings against them in a 4-0 home victory on May 3, allowing two hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Left-hander Robbie Ray (4-6, 4.93) will start the series opener for the Mariners. He is 0-3 with a 5.82 ERA over his last three starts. Ray has surrendered at least four earned runs in four of his last six starts and has logged seven innings only once this season, in his Mariners debut against Minnesota on April 8. |
06-05-22 | Celtics +4.5 v. Warriors | 88-107 | Loss | -110 | 6 h 27 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Celtics have been "Road Warriors" in the postseason. Boston is 8-2 away from home, including three wins at Miami in the Eastern Conference finals and a Game 6 victory at defending-champion Milwaukee that kept the Celtics alive in the conference semifinals. The trend continued with the stellar fourth-quarter rally. While Jaylen Brown (24 points) and Derrick White (21 points, five 3-pointers) combined with Horford for 71 points, star Jayson Tatum was just 3-of-17 shooting for 12 points. He did deliver 13 assists, the most in his career. |
06-05-22 | Cardinals -127 v. Cubs | 5-3 | Win | 100 | 8 h 40 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Chicago will send Justin Steele (1-5, 5.40 ERA) to the mound for the series finale. The left-hander owns a 2.50 ERA in his last four starts covering 18 innings. Steele, 26, received a no-decision after giving up three runs over five innings against the Milwaukee Brewers last Tuesday. Steele, who has lost his last five decisions, made his only previous start against St. Louis on Sept. 24, 2021. He allowed six runs over five innings in an 8-5 loss. St. Louis will counter with veteran starter Adam Wainwright (5-4, 2.75) in the series finale. The right-hander struck out 10 over seven shutout innings against the San Diego Padres last Tuesday. Wainwright, 40, leads all active pitchers against the Cubs in career wins (17). |
06-05-22 | Rangers v. Lightning -174 | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 2 h 32 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Tampa Bay Lightning have lost back-to-back playoff games for the first time in nearly three years, and it is going to be a massive challenge for the New York Rangers to make it three in a row. Tampa heads back home where it has been strong in the postseason thus far, going 4-1 at Amalie Arena. The Lightning have not played their best hockey in this series, but all we have seen from them in the last two postseasons is how resilient this group is. One player to keep your eyes on for them is Nikita Kucherov. In the first two games, Kucherov has only recorded one goal and one assist, and I don’t know if the Rangers will be able to continuously shut him down. He has been an incredible playoff performer in his entire career, so I imagine that he will start to get back into stride at some point soon. Andrei Vasilevskiy had a much better showing in Game 2 than what we saw in Game 1, and I have a feeling he will look even sharper on home ice. Vasilevskiy and Igor Shesterkin are essentially neck and neck when it comes to statistics so neither team really has a goaltending advantage. Tampa is going to come out of the gate with a ton of fight today and it is tough to bet against the two-time defending champs on home ice with their backs against the wall. |
06-05-22 | Mariners v. Rangers -125 | 6-5 | Loss | -125 | 4 h 27 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Left-hander Martin Perez (4-2, majors-best 1.42 ERA) will make the start for the Rangers. The Mariners will turn to promising rookie right-hander George Kirby (1-1, 3.46), who picked up his first win in the majors during his last start. Seattle recorded a 4-3 win in the series opener on Friday before Texas countered with a 3-2 victory the following night. Perez has been one of the biggest surprises in the big leagues. The left-hander was named the American League Pitcher of the Month for May after he posted a 4-0 record with an 0.64 ERA. Perez owns an 8-5 record with a 3.44 ERA in 25 career appearances (22 starts) against Seattle. |
06-05-22 | Nationals v. Reds -175 | 5-4 | Loss | -175 | 3 h 21 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Reds send ace Luis Castillo (2-2, 3.38 ERA) to the mound today. Castillo, who will be making his sixth start of the season, appears to be rounding into form. In his last three starts, the right-hander is 2-1 with a 2.12 ERA, striking out 21 and walking just four in 17 innings and holding opponents to a .194 batting average. In Tuesday's 2-1 win at Boston, Castillo struck out 10, walked three and allowed just one hit in six innings. The Nationals counter with left-hander Patrick Corbin (1-8, 6.96), who is trying to put a rough May behind him. He was 1-4 with a 5.97 ERA in that span, and in his last start, he was tagged for seven runs on 12 hits in just 4 1/3 innings of a 10-0 road loss to the New York Mets. Corbin is making his 11th career start and 12th appearance against the Reds, with a 3-4 record and a 4.04 ERA. |
06-05-22 | Diamondbacks -144 v. Pirates | 0-3 | Loss | -144 | 3 h 58 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units In the series finale, Arizona right-hander Zac Gallen (4-0, 2.32 ERA) is scheduled to oppose Pittsburgh right-hander Zach Thompson (2-4, 5.18). Gallen has five no-decisions to go with his four wins. His latest victory came Monday, when he gave up two runs and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings against the Atlanta Braves. He struck out six and walked two. That game came after Arizona was swept in four games by the Dodgers, and the Diamondbacks were up front about looking to Gallen to step up as a stopper. On the road, Gallen is 2-0 with a 1.76 ERA, a .167 opponents' batting average and a 0.85 WHIP. |

06-05-22 | Angels v. Phillies -118 | 7-9 | Win | 100 | 2 h 19 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units When the Phillies and Angels meet for the finale of their three-game series Sunday afternoon in Philadelphia, it is the Angels who are looking to end a 10-game losing streak, the team's longest since an 11-game slide in 2016. The club record for consecutive losses is 13, a skid that began Sept. 19, 1988, and continued into the following season. The Angels' offense has averaged just 2.8 runs per game during the slide (28 runs in 10 games), and that includes one game in which Los Angeles scored 10 runs. Left-hander Patrick Sandoval (3-1, 2.70 ERA) will be on the mound on Saturday for Los Angeles to make his ninth start of the season. He is coming off his worst start of the year on May 29, when he gave up six runs (five earned) and five hits in three innings. He has never faced the Phillies. Right-hander Kyle Gibson (3-2, 3.83 ERA) will be on the mound for Philadelphia, his 11th start of the season. He hasn't won in his past four starts, but he hasn't pitched all that badly -- he gave up more than two runs in a game only once in that span. |

06-04-22 | Avalanche v. Oilers +118 | 4-2 | Loss | -100 | 8 h 6 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Oilers have fared well when their backs have been against the wall. However, Colorado may be too tall of a task. While Edmonton has a deep and powerful roster, it is not as sound defensively, nor in net, as Colorado. Also, the Avalanche’s offensive depth is just a bit more dangerous. Mike Smith has shown that even at the ripe age of 40, the playoffs won’t phase him. The problem he’s been unpredictable and lacked consistency. Francouz can be a wild card here, too. Coming on in relief in Game 1, he nearly let the Oilers come back from a large deficit. In Game 2, he only faced 24 shots and seven high-danger chances, which means the Avs did an exceptional job protecting him. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the home team take a victory here. Not only were the Oilers elite in front of their home fans during the season, but in the postseason, they’ve taken care of business with a 4-1-1 home record. While I think Colorado takes this series, I think the Oilers make things a wee-bit interesting with a Game 3 victory. |

06-04-22 | Angels v. Phillies -176 | 2-7 | Win | 100 | 9 h 55 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Right-hander Michael Lorenzen (5-2, 3.19 ERA) will start for the Angels, making his ninth start of the season. He's coming off a no-decision in his most recent start last Saturday against Toronto, when he gave up three runs and five hits in 6 2/3 innings. This will be Lorenzen's first career start against the Philadelphia. He is 1-2 with a 3.38 ERA in eight relief appearances. The Phillies will counter with right-hander Zack Wheeler (3-3, 3.16). Wheeler also had a no-decision his last time out in a 5-4 loss to the Mets on Sunday. He gave up three runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks in six innings. In his career against the Angels, Wheeler is 1-0 in his only appearance. |

06-04-22 | Astros -170 v. Royals | 0-6 | Loss | -170 | 7 h 51 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Royals will host the Houston Astros for the second game of a three-game series this afternoon, and Bubic is likely to get start. Bubic was in the Royals clubhouse before Friday's game and is expected to get the official call up from Triple-A Omaha. The Royals sent him there after Bubic started the season at 0-3 with a 12.83 ERA. Bubic gave up one run on one hit (a solo home run by Corey Seager) in one inning of relief against the Texas Rangers and was sent to Triple-A Omaha on May 12. He made three starts in Omaha, going 0-2 with a 6.59 ERA. But he cut down on his walks, yielding just four in 13 2/3 innings. In 13 1/3 innings with the Royals, he has walked 11 and struck out 10. Luis Garcia (3-3, 3.14 ERA) will be on the mound for the Astros. He is coming off a month in which he was 2-2 with a 2.33 ERA, but in May, he surrendered two earned runs or fewer in four of his five starts. Garcia 1-0 with a 2.31 ERA in two starts career starts against the Royals. |
