11-26-20 | Bradley +10 v. Xavier | 50-51 | Win | 100 | 4 h 31 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Musketeers invite Braves to sit with them for holiday and could have their Thanksgiving lunch eaten by a rude guest. Xavier – not as strong the last two seasons and with turnover issues that rarely existed in Chris Mack’s tenure -- will be blending in a couple of “veteran” transfers and perhaps one more if they can get Big Ben Stanley (22-and-7 at Hampton) eligible. The Braves – back-to-back Mo Valley champs -- won’t be awed, regardless. |
11-25-20 | South Dakota v. Colorado -16.5 | 61-84 | Win | 100 | 7 h 45 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Buffs have a solid core of returning, productive experience, plus redshirt freshman guard Keeshawn Barthelemy, who’ll allow McKinley Wright to move off the ball and score more. South Dakota plays up in class in first game after losing five of top seven scorers |
11-25-20 | Jacksonville State v. Alabama -20.5 | 57-81 | Win | 100 | 7 h 41 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units A year ago, we picked Penn of the Ivy League outright over Alabama – at Alabama -- in the Tide’s first game under head coach Nate Oates. Timing, of course, is everything. Penn – who could score – won 81-80. Alabama went on to have a respectable season in which they averaged 82 points per game. So-so offensive teams from lesser conferences are in very difficult spots when on the road vs. track-meet hosts |
11-25-20 | Cal-Irvine v. Pepperdine -1 | 72-86 | Win | 100 | 10 h 60 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Waves bring back a lot, including senior point guard Colbey Ross. Though Ross had a pedestrian 13 points and eight assists in last year's game, he's huge talent. While the Waves return four starters, the Anteaters lose four (senior) starters. While expectations are always high for this team, they're going to be pretty inexperienced out of the gate |
11-23-20 | Rams v. Bucs -4 | 27-24 | Loss | -103 | 9 h 1 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Great Monday Night matchup, with this one looming large when it comes to Wild Card implications in January. These 2 have some playoff history, with both times in the NFC Title game and both with some pretty weird scores: Rams 9-0 in "Big Sombrero" in '79, & Rams 11-6 in St Louis in '99. Rams 4-0 at home allowing 13 points per game, & 6-1 in the NFC. No picks in last week's 27/37, 302 yards, 0 TDs with 0 INTs, Goff effort. His 4th game without a pick (4-0 in those 4). Brady's record vs all teams besides New Orleans this year: 7-1. He was a mere 28-of-39 for 341 yards, 3 TDs and 0 INTs, & a rushing TD vs Carolina last week |
11-22-20 | Chiefs -7 v. Raiders | 35-31 | Loss | -110 | 12 h 2 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Revenge? Of course, as the Raiders are the only team to beat the Chiefs since the Packers came into Arrowhead on Oct 27, 2019 & took KC, 31-24, on Sunday night football. KC has gone 19-1 SU since that game. Three straight wins for the Raiders, allowing only 14.7 points per game during that run. Five takeaways vs the Broncos (had 5 total takeaways in their first 5 contests), and 3-0 vs AFC West foes for 1st time since 2010. Chiefs on their 2nd 4-game winning streak this year, with the first one broken by a 40-32 loss to these Raiders. Revenge could be overrated, but not so in this situation |
11-22-20 | Dolphins -3.5 v. Broncos | 13-20 | Loss | -110 | 8 h 39 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Battle of a couple of QBs who have already shown signs of brilliance. Of course, Tua came into the NFL with much more fanfare, but Lock has shown he can hold his own. Problem with Lock: Mahomes isn't going anywhere, while Tua timed it perfectly with Brady heading to NFC South. Best start (6-3) for Dolphins since 2001, & on their first 5-game win streak since 2016. Tua is the first rookie to win his first 3 games since Lamar did it in '18. He was a solid 15-of-25, 169 yards, 2 TDs 0 INTs. Drew's 4 picks do not get it done in the NFL. Stats say it's the Broncos, but can't buck oncoming Dolphins |
11-22-20 | Eagles v. Browns -2.5 | 17-22 | Win | 100 | 5 h 30 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Many a Browns fan is still hurting over the fact that the Browns took Tim Couch over Donavan McNabb in the 1999 draft. Since then, the Browns have played exactly one playoff game (36-33 loss to Pitt in '02 Wild Card), while McNabb took the Eagles to 4 straight NFL Title Games from '01-'04. Eagles off to worst start since 2012 (3-5-1). Were 0/9 on 3rd downs vs the Giants last week. First game since '04 without a 3rd down conversion. By comparison, best start (6-3) for Browns since '12. Cleveland in off 3rd time in 5 games with 200+ rushing yards. Chubb & Hunt: 126 & 104 rushing yards |
11-22-20 | Titans v. Ravens -6 | 30-24 | Loss | -109 | 4 h 21 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units While neither team is up to their normal standards, the Titans' drop has been the more obvious, losing 3-of-4, with the offensive line main culprit, as that unit is hurting. The Ravens well remember losing to Tennessee in last year's Divisionals, & have been pointing to this one ever since. The ineptitude of place kicker Gostkowski eventually has a bearing on a team's morale, Defensively, the Titans rank 25th, & the Ravens rank 8th. |
11-21-20 | Oklahoma State v. Oklahoma -7 | 13-41 | Win | 100 | 25 h 43 m | Show
Rating: 3 Units Sooners have tightened up that "D", with a 124-30 point edge since trailing Texas Tech 7-0, & a 60-34 first down edge as well. 'Pokes' L3 games decided by 3, 7, & 2 points ATS, & haven't covered since Oct 3rd. Took Kansas State on 85-yard fumble return, which offset a 370-256 yard deficit |
11-21-20 | Michigan v. Rutgers +13 | 48-42 | Win | 100 | 24 h 27 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Well, it didn't take the Wolves long to revert to form, following their opening week destruction of Minnesota, as they've gone 0-3 both SU & ATS since, not only failing to cover, but 24, 13½, & 31 ATS point setbacks. Can't run, & in off a 373-47 rushing yard deficit in 48-11 loss to Wisconsin, which represented their worst home loss since 1935, while off to their worst start since '67. With all of the preseason hype now completely gone, focus iffy |
11-21-20 | Wisconsin -7.5 v. Northwestern | Top | 7-17 | Loss | -104 | 21 h 43 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit Big-10 Game of the Week Wow! Check Badgers' 343-47 rushing yard edge at Michigan, so now a 94-18 point edge this year (+50½ points ATS), & 11-1 as road favorites (37-21, 38-17, 49-11 wins L3 road games). 'Cats 5-0 ATS lately, with 3½, 4½, & 4 point covers L3, & Ramsey just 6 TDs with 4 INTs for the season. When Wisky is cookin', jump in. |
11-21-20 | Cincinnati -5.5 v. Central Florida | Top | 36-33 | Loss | -103 | 26 h 46 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit CFB Game of the Week What a match! Knights rank 17th, 1st, 10th, & 1st in run, pass, scoring, & total "O", behind Gabriel's 417.7 passing yard per game (21 TDs 2 INTs). Bearcats have been our "meal ticket", with 1,096-379 rushing yard edge in their L4 games: 31½, 32½, 15, 12½ point covers! Defensively, it's all Cincinnati, ranking 10th in total "D", compared to Central Florida's 110th spot. No, not off this horse. |
11-21-20 | Iowa v. Penn State +1.5 | 41-21 | Loss | -110 | 20 h 23 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units First 0-4 start for the Nits since '01, despite 30-17 first down & 501-298 total yard edges in 30-23 loss to Nebraska, with fumble return TD the difference. Hawkeyes bouncing back nicely off 24-20- & 21-20 losses, but note just 1-first down & 34-yard edges in rout of Minnesota. Extremely tight series. A take. |
11-21-20 | UTSA -9.5 v. Southern Miss | Top | 23-20 | Loss | -114 | 20 h 4 m | Show |
NCAAF Play of the Day Explosive 'Runners in sweet bounce back effort vs Utep: 600-246 yard edge in 24½ point cover. Ten points from 13-1 ATS run, while Eagles -136½ points ATS L10, allowing 35.2 points per game in L9 outings. Revenge! |
11-19-20 | Cardinals +3 v. Seahawks | 21-28 | Loss | -100 | 11 h 22 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Third straight great Thursday Night matchup. This looms large when it comes to division rankings & tie-breakers. As we've mentioned before, it's Russell Wilson vs Russell Wilson 2.0. What a win for the Cards vs the Bills last week, after trailing 23-9 in the 2nd half. Murray: 22/32, 245 yards & 1 TD with 1 INT. Also 61 rushing yards with 2 TDs. And he was 4/4 for 75 yards, with successful game-winning "Hail Mary" throw. He is now the 1st QB with a rushing TD in 5 straight games since Tobin Rote in 1956. 'Hawks have lost 3-of-4, since starting at 5-0, with 10 Wilson turn overs in his last 4 games. No TDs & 4 INTs last week |
11-16-20 | Vikings v. Bears +3.5 | 19-13 | Loss | -115 | 12 h 60 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Don't look now, but the Vikings are suddenly a dangerous team. If Cook continues to pound the rock like he has, the Bears will have their hands full. Is there a better running back in the NFL than Dalvin Cook? Try 22 rushes, 206 rushing yards, 2 TDs (also 46 receiving yards). Cousins: 13/20, 220 yards, & 3 TDs with 0 INTs. First game this season with 2+ TD passes & no picks. Bears putting up only 16.7 points per game in 3-game slide. That's 23 points, or fewer, in all 6 Nick Foles starts this year (2-4 record). Six straight games with fewer than 100 rushing yards (first time since '08-'09). But Bear "D" gives us Monday Night home division dog |
11-15-20 | Seahawks v. Rams -2 | 16-23 | Win | 100 | 28 h 49 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The slate of great games just continues with this NFC West battle. Trust us, both teams are rooting for the Bills & Saints today, with log jam that is the NFC West standings. Seahawks not exactly the "Legion of Boom" anymore. Gave up 44 pts to the Bills, which is the most in Pete Carroll's 11 seasons. Most passing yards allowed thru 8 games by any team in the Super Bowl era (2,897 including 386 in Buffalo). And check Russell Wilson's 4 turn overs in a game for the first time since '16. This one features the Rams' top-rated "D" vs the Seahawks' 31st & last defense. A sweet edge |
11-15-20 | Bills v. Cardinals -2.5 | 30-32 | Loss | -110 | 29 h 53 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units What a great inter conference matchup we have here. Super Bowl preview? A long shot for sure, but this is the National Football League, after all. A 7-2 start for the Bills, the best for them since 1993 (the last of 4 consecutive Super Bowl appearances). Josh Allen vs Seahawks last week: 31-of-38, 415 yards, 3 TDs with 0 INTs, & a rushing TD. Wow! His 3rd game of the season without a turn over. Bills 3-0 in those games. Murray has that Cardinal "O" clicking: 21-of-26, 238 passing yards, & 3 TDs with 0 INTs, along with a career-high 106 rushing yards with a rushing TD. Fourth straight game with 30+ points, tying a franchise record. Cards |
11-15-20 | Bucs -5.5 v. Panthers | 46-23 | Win | 100 | 26 h 2 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Brady takes on the Panthers again. Of course, his most famous battle with Carolina was XXXVIII, when the Pats won 32-29. If you drew 2 & 9 in your Super Bowl pool, you thought you had zero chance of winning. Think again. The 'under' also seemed in the bag, until 37 points in the 4th quarter were scored. Four straight losses by the Panthers, all by 8+ points. McCaffrey has scored 2 TDs in each games he's played this season, but Tampa has won by 31-17 & 38-10 following its 2 previous losses |
11-15-20 | Jaguars v. Packers -13.5 | 20-24 | Loss | -107 | 25 h 33 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Mark Brunell Bowl. Granted, he only played in 2 games for the Pack (never started), in 1994, before being traded to Jacksonville, which worked out well for the Jags, as they made the 1996 AFC Title game. Rodgers joined Brady (2007) as the only players with 24+ TD passes & 2 picks in their first 8 games of a season. Packers have now scored 30+ points in 6 of their first 8 games of this season (best in the league). The last time Green Bay did that was in 1963. Jags allowing 32.4 points per game during 7-game losing streak, Jacksonville's worst start since '14. When the Bay reaches 30 points, it covers |
11-14-20 | UNLV v. San Jose State -14.5 | 17-34 | Win | 100 | 80 h 6 m | Show
Rating: 3 Units Spartans still can't get their overland game in tune, ranking 113th in rushing, but 23rd in passing. Held San Diego State's 349 rushing yards per game to just 101 yards in upset (22-point cover). UNLV lost by 14 points ATS in 1st road game |
11-14-20 | Fresno State -10 v. Utah State | 35-16 | Win | 100 | 74 h 47 m | Show
Rating: 3 Units Bulldogs seem to have regained a bit of their form which staked them to their 22-6 record in '17 & '18, winding up with a pair of bowl wins & covers. They were killed by the departure bug in '19, with just 2 returning offensive starters, & ensuing 4-8 record, although 4 of those 8 losses came by a total of 9 points. Opened this year with disappointing loss to Hawaii, before solid wins over Colorado State & UNLV, along with 25½ point ATS edge. Utah State owns an 80-20 point deficit. Enough said. |
11-14-20 | Wake Forest v. North Carolina -13.5 | 53-59 | Loss | -109 | 69 h 27 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Every other week for North Carolina, while Wake Forest there by the week. However, check 382-216 UNC point edge last 9 outings. Off 338 rushing yards vs Duke, ranking 13th in run & 5th in total "O". Wake: 13 take aways L4 weeks (224 rushing yards per game in those 4), but host 10-1 & 8-1 ATS in Wake Forest & UNC tilts |
11-13-20 | East Carolina v. Cincinnati -27.5 | Top | 17-55 | Win | 100 | 78 h 26 m | Show |
CFB Game of the Week What? Get off this horse? Never. Check 897-173 Bearcat rushing yard edge L3 games: 31½, 32½, 15 point covers. Edging up the polls, & +224 points ATS since '18. Pirates out of Tulane tilt early (31-7 in 3rd), with a 277-35 rushing yard deficit. Sure, Central Florida looms for Cincinnati, but still the play. |
11-11-20 | Toledo +3 v. Western Michigan | 38-41 | Push | 0 | 11 h 37 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units These 2 took care of patsies last week, with 38-3 & 58-13 rompers, with 484-256 & 524-267 yard edges. Still can't trust Western Michigan and their 12-21 spread run. Toledo is 3-0 SU/ATS the last three in the series. Last season, the Rockets racked up 275 yards on the ground, en route to a 31-24 win. The offensive line and running game remain a strength for Toledo and the Broncos remain vulnerable on the ground. Last time here in Kalamazoo, the (+4.5) Rockets won by a score of 51-24 |
11-08-20 | Saints v. Bucs -4.5 | 38-3 | Loss | -109 | 54 h 43 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units What a matchup! Can the Bucs get revenge from that Week 1 beatdown in New Orleans? This one is huge when it comes to deciding who wins the NFC South. Brady does not want to give the tie-breaker to Brees & Co. Brees has now passed Tom for the most TD passes in NFL history: 560. They're tied for the NFC South lead, with the Saints in weekly nail biters, while the Bucs' 5 wins have been more of a 'Brees': 14, 18, 7, 28, 25 points. Only reinforces Tampa call. |
11-08-20 | Dolphins v. Cardinals -4.5 | 34-31 | Loss | -105 | 50 h 33 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Battle of 2 of the more exciting QBs in the NFL: Kyler vs Tua. Did anyone check the stats of the Dolphins' upset of the Rams? If not, try Ram edges of 31-8 in first downs, 131-55 in rushing yards, 340-90 in passing yards, & 471-145 in total yards. That 326-yard deficit was the most by a winning team since 2002. A defensive TD & special teams TD obviously helped. How about the Cards with 100+ rushing yards in each of their first 7 games of the season for their first time since 1984. They've scored 20+ points in 10 straight games, including their 37-34 comeback OT win over the previously undefeated Seahawks. And again. |
11-08-20 | Panthers v. Chiefs -10 | 31-33 | Loss | -110 | 47 h 34 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Chiefs laying many a discomfort with NFL double digit chalks aside. Another 5 TD passes for Mahomes vs the Jets (31/42, 416 yards, 5 TDs and 0 INTs). That's his 2nd game with 400+ passing yards & 5 TDs, passing the great Len Dawson with his 10th career 4+ TD passing game, now holding the Chiefs' record in that department. Back-to-back 30 point games for Chiefs (1st time this season). For the Panthers, Bridgewater took a vicious hit in that loss. Have dropped 6-of-7 vs Atlanta. When Chiefs are rolling, jump on board |
11-08-20 | Lions +4.5 v. Vikings | 20-34 | Loss | -110 | 46 h 26 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Does anyone get remotely excited about this matchup anymore? How about the Vikings taking it to the Pack last week? Scored TDs on each of first 4 possessions. Dalvin Cook was running HARD in Lambeau last week: 30 carries, 163 yards, & 3 rushing TDs. Also 63 receiving yards & a receiving TD. Good for him: 2nd only to Henry in rushing yards, along with 11 TDs. He became the first Viking with 4 TDs in a game since Ahmad Rashed in 1979. Time flies. Lions have now lost 16 of last 20 games, but have scored 21+ points in each of their first 7 games of a season for the first time since 1954. |
11-08-20 | Ravens +100 v. Colts | 24-10 | Win | 100 | 24 h 13 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units These 2 could easily end up facing each other in January. Seems incongruous that the Colts not only field the better defense than the Ravens, but ditto on offense, although Baltimore did hold 25-19 first down & 457-221 total yard edges vs the Steelers, in that 28-24 loss, as Jackson threw 2 interceptions (1 a "pick-6" on the 3rd play of the game) & lost 2 fumbles. Ravens' 265 RYs are the most in a loss in team history. And Jackson's first career loss as a starter, when leading at halftime (22-1 record). Back on track. |
11-07-20 | Baylor v. Iowa State -13.5 | 31-38 | Loss | -114 | 69 h 8 m | Show
Rating: 3 Units "Always Dangerous" Bears losing their ferocity, with 27, 64, 93 rushing yards L3 games (0-3 SU, 0-2-1 ATS), & Brewer just 69th in passing efficiency. Cyclones have the weapons in Purdy (219 passing yards per game), & Hall (901 rushing yards, #2 in land). Dog series, but Cyclones remember last year's heartbreak. |
11-07-20 | Oklahoma State -11.5 v. Kansas State | 20-18 | Loss | -112 | 66 h 9 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Four turnovers did 'Pokes in in 41-34 loss to Texas, despite 32-17 first downs & 530-287 total yard edges. Sanders: career-high 400 passing yards, but 3 turn overs. 'Cats owned a 7-0 ATS run, before 485-225 yard deficit in loss to West Virginia. Have outplayed just one foe, ranking 84th in total "O". |
11-07-20 | Houston v. Cincinnati -13.5 | Top | 10-38 | Win | 100 | 70 h 38 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit CFB Game of the Week Bearcats were a pleasure, with their annihilation of Memphis last week, & with much to prove, following last season's late season collapse, they are hardly in a "letdown" state of mind for the rest of the year. Consecutive 31½ & 32½ covers, while climbing to the #6 spot in the polls, has their enthusiasm at an all-time high, with QB Ridder passing for 5 TDs LW, while Cincy's overland game has posted a 555-80 yard edge the past 2 weeks. Cougars have allowed 35 points per game over their last 22 lined affairs. Spot bit light. |
11-07-20 | Texas Tech +9.5 v. TCU | 18-34 | Loss | -114 | 27 h 11 m | Show
Rating: 3 Units Second of three revenge setups for Raiders, while this is a revenge sandwich for the Frogs, who are in off a 247-93 rushing yard edge in solid win over Baylor, leading 30-0 in the 2nd. Raiders have allowed 30+ points in 13 of their last 15 games, but 8-of-10 Tcu games been decided by less than 8 points SU. |
11-07-20 | Boston College -14 v. Syracuse | 16-13 | Loss | -100 | 64 h 46 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The reason that this one isn't on the top of our list, is a bit of reluctance in pegging the Eagles, in a bit of a fear of a letdown, following their near miss in last week's killer loss to the #1 team in the land, as they led Clemson, 28-10, only to lose 34-28 in the final 1:18. Other than that disappointment, they've been a steady play, on the plus side of the spread in 7 of the last 8 years. The Orange haven't crossed the recruiting threshold, with this season's 1-6 mark the result. Lost last 3 HGs by 38-24, 38-21, & 38-14. |
11-07-20 | West Virginia +6.5 v. Texas | Top | 13-17 | Win | 100 | 66 h 51 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit Mismatch of the Week Dog continues to bark in Steer contests. Now 27-12-1. Took Oklahoma State in OT, despite negative stat dominance, with another 3 TDs with 0 INTs from Ehlinger (now 20 TDs with 5 INTs). Mounties have outgained all six foes, ranking 10th, 5th, 17th, & 4th in rushing, passing, scoring, & total "D". We take the TD. |
11-06-20 | San Jose State v. San Diego State -9 | 28-17 | Loss | -105 | 51 h 57 m | Show
Rating: 3 Units Spartans not exactly an overland power, but QB Starkel is something else: 467 passing yards, 5 TDs 0 INTs in 17-0 windup win over New Mexico. Aztecs came in for us, with 30-11 first down edge. And note a 694-183 rushing yard edge this season |
11-05-20 | Utah State v. Nevada -16 | 9-34 | Win | 100 | 25 h 16 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Pack QB Strong is at 385 passing yards per game (6 TDs with 0 INTs) to help stake Nevada to identical 37-point outputs, & we heartily agree, as this represents their 3rd straight revenge setup. The Aggies are struggling, with 25-12 & 30-11 first down deficits in combined 80-20 point, & 1,020-418 yard shortage. Only way to go. |
11-02-20 | Bucs -12.5 v. Giants | 25-23 | Loss | -110 | 58 h 28 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Yes, we know that we're bucking the Monday Night double digit home dog with this call. Tom Brady is no stranger to this venue. The most famous was when the 15-0 Pats came in here in 2007, with the 2 playing one of the most memorable regular season games ever. Of course, the Pats won, 38-35, for a perfect 16-0. A month later: Giants 17 Patriots 14, in Super Bowl LI. Bucs seem to have landed another weapon: none other than Antonio Brown. Brady last week: 33-of-45, 369 yards, 4 TDs and 0 INTs, with another rushing TD. His first career game with 4+ TD passes & a rushing TD. Not exactly what the Giants needed, after blowing game with the Eagles. No Monday upset |
11-01-20 | Cowboys v. Eagles -10.5 | 9-23 | Win | 100 | 34 h 21 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Not exactly the sexiest matchup here, as these 2 continue to disappoint. However, a huge game in regard to the NFC East title. Cowboys giving up points by the bushel, allowing 16 TD passes with just a single pick. Zeke: 1st 4 seasons: 97 rushing yards per game. This season? Try 69 yards per game. Not what the 'Boys need with Dak out for the year. He has zero games this season with 100+ rushing yards. And Dalton was the victim of a vicious hit in 3rd quarter in Washington. If you need to know just how bad the Dallas "D" is, it gave up 125 first half rushing yards to a Washington team that had the worst run attack in the NFL. Dallas has trailed by 14+ pts in each of its last 6 games. Just sad |

11-01-20 | Saints v. Bears +5.5 | 26-23 | Win | 100 | 30 h 30 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units These 2 battled here in the 2006 NFC Championship game. The Bears romped to a 39-14 win in that one, before losing to Peyton Manning & Co in Super Bowl XLI. Rex Grossman was the winning QB in that one, even though Brees outplayed him. Chicago is coming in off Monday Nighter vs the Rams, but is 5-0 vs the Saints. Streaky New Orleans at 30.7 points per game in current 3-game winning streak, with 6, 3, & 3 point margins. Bears are masters of the 4th quarter comeback, enabling them to stay with Packers atop the NFC North, with their wins coming by 4, 4, 4, 1, 7 points. More of same |
11-01-20 | Chargers -3 v. Broncos | 30-31 | Loss | -120 | 30 h 39 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Battle of bottom feeders in the AFC West, but these 2 have shown a weird capacity to win a few games every year as a big underdog. Also a penchant for losing close games, as well. For the Broncos, just take the road team, as it has covered 5 straight, which includes Denver's upset of the Patriots (13-pt cover). Chargers in off snapping 4-game losing streak, as Herbert had 347 passing yards, 3 TDs, 66 rushing yards, & a TD. First rookie Charger QB to win a start since Ryan Leaf in 1998, & just the 2nd rookie QB ever with 3+ TD passes in 3 straight games (Deshaun Watson). Road call |
11-01-20 | Rams v. Dolphins +3.5 | 17-28 | Win | 100 | 26 h 16 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units This one doesn't seem nearly as easy for the Rams as it did on Thurs, May 7, when the NFL officially released its 2020 schedule. L.A. coming in off its Monday Nighter vs the Bears, so a bit of a plus for the Fish, who are in off their bye week. But for the record, Rams are 8-1 ATS vs a road opponent with rest. For Miami, try consecutive wins by 20+ points in the same season for the first time since 1990, & first shutout since 2014. And note CB Xavien Howard the 1st Dolphin with a pick in 4 straight games since '70 merger. That's 50 years, folks! Could be won on final play. |
10-31-20 | San Diego State -7.5 v. Utah State | Top | 38-7 | Win | 100 | 53 h 41 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit Mountain West Game of the Week That Aztec "D" was again front-&-center in its rout of Unlv (424-186 yard edge). Giving up just 11.2 points per game in 8 outings. Should continue vs Aggies, who are in off a 203-450 yard deficit (12 first downs), & have allowed 31+ points in 5 of last 8 outings. Aggies pay for last year. |
10-31-20 | North Carolina -6.5 v. Virginia | Top | 41-44 | Loss | -130 | 51 h 58 m | Show |
Rating: 3 Unit ACC Play of the Day The visitor has covered 7 straight games involving North Carolina, but can't see bucking this consistent outfit. Check out UNC's last 3 games: 31, 27, & 34 first downs; 656, 558, & 585 yards. Virginia got Armstrong back last week: 2 TDs with 0 INTs. North Carolina allowed zero TD passes from Miami's King, after he burned them for 43-yard TD pass in game's first 0:28. But Virginia giving up 927 yards last 2 weeks. |
10-31-20 | Texas +3.5 v. Oklahoma State | Top | 41-34 | Win | 100 | 47 h 58 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit Big-12 Game of the Week Extremely tight series, & obviously we expect more of same. The dog is now 26-12 ATS in Steer games. Texas held a 159-64 rushing yard edge over Baylor, & another 3 TDs from Ehlinger, now 17 TD with only 5 interceptions. Oklahoma State perfect balance (236 rushing yards, 235 passing yards) in win over Iowa State. Best game of the week? |
10-31-20 | Memphis v. Cincinnati -6.5 | Top | 10-49 | Win | 100 | 43 h 4 m | Show |
Rating: 5 Unit CFB Game of the Month The Bearcats have been as solid play for the past decade, with six double-digit win seasons since '07, & eight years with at least 9 wins, routing BC, 38-6, in last year's Birmingham Bowl. Returning 15 starters, including QB Ridder, who is in off a brilliant display in last week's rout of previously unbeaten SMU (4 TDs with 0 interceptions, & 179 rushing yards) has elevated them to the 7th spot in this week's polls. Memphis sure can score, but field the worst defense in the land. Cincinnati has been pointing to this one all year, since losing to the Tigers twice last year. |
10-31-20 | Purdue -7 v. Illinois | 31-24 | Push | 0 | 43 h 46 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Another dog cover in Boiler upset of Iowa (TD in L2:15), despite a 195-104 rushing yard deficit. So Purdue is 8-1 ATS lately, & the dog is now 9-0 in Boiler games, with the visitor 47-20 vs points. Just 11.8 points per game last 4 Illini tilts, & in off allowing 20-of-21 (5 TDs). Lost last home game by 26 points ATS. Revenge! |
10-31-20 | UTSA +5.5 v. Florida Atlantic | 3-24 | Loss | -116 | 42 h 5 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units FAU in off rare setback, which brings their current SU log to 12-2, as 9-7 lead over Marshall ended with a 20-9 setback, with a 150-yard deficit. However, that reinforced the dog edge in Owl games: 15-6 ATS. UTSA continues its overland assault: 188-78 rushing yard edge over Louisiana Tech. A 14-0 windup, winning it on 45-yard McCormick run. 'Runners 12 pts from a 12-0 line run. |
10-30-20 | Minnesota -19.5 v. Maryland | 44-45 | Loss | -102 | 26 h 32 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Any hopes of a Maryland improvement dashed in 40-point loss to North Western. Now a 319-61 point deficit in their last 7 games: -132½ points ATS. Worst rushing "D" in land, along with 4th-worst rushing "O". Tagovailoa last week: 0 TDs with 3 INTs. Quick bounce back for Minnesota, following Michigan debacle: 328-223 point edge L10. |
10-29-20 | Colorado State -2.5 v. Fresno State | 17-38 | Loss | -114 | 4 h 55 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Bulldogs carrying over in their recent frustrations, opening with a 325-126 rushing yard deficit in hosting Hawaii. Are on an 0-5 run, both SU & ATS (-61 points). And check Haener's 3 picks last week. Rams return 8 "O" starters, including QB O'Brien (2,803 passing yards, 62½). Colorado State ready. |
10-29-20 | Falcons +1.5 v. Panthers | 25-17 | Win | 100 | 2 h 18 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Two teams that seem to be headed in opposite directions at this point in the season. For the Falcons a quick revenge shot just 3 weeks removed from 23-16 loss to Panthers. Atlanta 5-1 ATS in series (3-1 at Carolina). Another brutal last-second loss for the Falcons in 2020. That's 4 losses by 7 points, or less. And it was their 3rd loss when leading entering the 4th. Now 0-4 at home for first time since 2003. Matty: another 339 passing yards (1 TD 0 INTs). Ditto the Panthers, whose 3-4 is their worst start since '16. Were outrushed, 138-37 by the Saints, although Teddy was a solid 23-of-28, 254 passing yards, & 2 TDs 0 INTs. Note that the home team is 1-6 ATS in Falcon games, so reason enough for slightest dog call. |
10-26-20 | Bears +6 v. Rams | 10-24 | Loss | -100 | 4 h 17 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units This one could loom large as a post-season tie-breaker come January. Trust us, the Rams don't want to travel to Soldier Field in January. Remember the Bears crushing Eric Dickerson & the 'Boys in the 1985 NFL Title Game, 24-0? We can still see Wilbur Marshall scoring that TD with the snow falling on NFL Films: 35 Years Ago. Bears' 5-1 start is their best since 2012, & 5-0 vs NFC for first time since 2006 (Super Bowl loss that year). Chicago has allowed only 4 TD passes this year, & has been masterful in those 4th-quarter comeback wins. All 4 of the Rams wins come against the 4 putrid NFC East teams! Meanwhile, some have called the Bears 5-1 record lucky, but their wins (including an impressive one against Tom Brady and Tampa) look much more legit |
10-25-20 | Seahawks -3 v. Cardinals | 34-37 | Loss | -125 | 80 h 51 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Any questions about the legitimacy of the Cards were washed away with Monday's 38-10 romper over the Cowboys, along with a 438-344 yard advantage. Murray another 2 TD passes, with 164 rushing yards from Drake. Now tied with the Rams for 2nd place in the AFC West. But still two games behind the Seahawks, who have made the late-game comeback their stock-&-trade, with Russell Wilson more amazing by the week. Remember that the Cards are not only in off a short week, but the Seahawks are a rested squad, off their bye. |
10-25-20 | Lions +2.5 v. Falcons | 23-22 | Win | 100 | 50 h 18 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Battle of dome teams, & 2 QBs who always seem to put up big numbers, but not the big "W". Ryan should be a Super Bowl winning QB, to go along with his MVP in 2016, but a couple of ill-advised deep-drop passing attempts killed it. Lions are in off consecutive road wins for first time since November 2017. And check Swift vs Jacksonville: 116 yards & 2 TDs (8.3 yards per rush). First Lion rookie with 100-plus rushing yards & 2 TDs since Barry Sanders in 1989. Falcons snapped 5-game losing string, doing it in style: 20½ point cover at Minnesota. Matt: 30-of-40, 371 yards & 4 TDs with 0 INTs, his 7th career game with 350+ passing yards & 4+ TD passes. And note picking off 3 Cousin passes in the first half. Call upset |
10-25-20 | Browns -3 v. Bengals | 37-34 | Push | 0 | 50 h 8 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Hopefully, this one will be as exciting as their earlier Thursday Night matchup in Week 2. What a game that was. Last week was quite a comedown for the Browns, in 38-7 loss to the Steelers, after posting 37.5 points per game in their previous 4 outings. Second straight game with 2 picks from Mayfield. And note that Cleveland has allowed 30+ points in 4-of-6 games this year. However, 5 straight games with a sack for Miles Garrett, 1st Brown to do that since Anthony Pleasant in 1995. Bengals in off their 3rd loss this season, by 5 points or fewer. Joe Burrow's 3rd game without a TD pass, with Cincy 0-3 SU in those contests. Call a quick bounce back for the Browns here. |
10-25-20 | Steelers v. Titans -1 | 27-24 | Loss | -110 | 50 h 60 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Both teams enter with perfect 5-0 slates. The Titans weren't give their due, with 2, 3, & 1 point wins to start their season, but Henry's stiff arm in win over the Bills has folks taking another look. Try a franchise record 601 total yards (263 rushing yards - Henry: another 212 yards, including a 94-yard TD run). Pitt "D", & '85 Giant "D" only units ever with 3+ sacks, & 1+ interception in each of their first 5 games of the season. Titans have had an opportunity to welcome back wide receivers who wouldn’t have been available to huddle-up against the Steelers had the game been played in Week 4: A.J. Brown and Adam Humphries. They are an impressively physical bunch and will give the Steelers trouble |
10-25-20 | Bills -12 v. Jets | 18-10 | Loss | -102 | 50 h 54 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Some of the shine has fallen off the Bills after that humiliating loss in Tennessee last Tuesday. Titans did them no favors with all those positive covid tests, & constant delay of that game. You know Buffalo was looking forward to playing the Chiefs in front of a national audience on Thursday, Oct 15th, but it had to be scrapped. Jets only winless team in the NFL, losing 3 games by at least 20 points. Note that the Bills had scored 31 & 30 points in first 2 road games, while the Jets have allowed 31, 37, & 30 points in their 3 home games, to date. Second 0-6 start for Jets franchise, & have been outscored 114-29 in the first half this season (21-0 vs Miami). Bill bounce backer |
10-24-20 | Air Force -7 v. San Jose State | Top | 6-17 | Loss | -105 | 59 h 41 m | Show |
Rating: 3 Unit CFB Play of the Day The Falcons can run, & can stop the run, while the Spartans can't run, & can't stop the run. Thus, it's all up to whoever replaces the productive Love at QB for San Jose State (5,886 passing yards L2 years). A huge gap to fill. Air Force took Navy apart in its only other game. Again. |
10-24-20 | Virginia v. Miami-FL -12.5 | Top | 14-19 | Loss | -109 | 56 h 11 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit ACC Game of the Week The addition of QB King (transfer from Houston) has done wonders for the 'Cane offense, which ranked 98th in the country a year ago. He is in off tossing 4 TDs vs stellar Pitt defense, 3 of them of the long range variety: 35, 38, & 45 yards. That only opens it up for UM's overland game, which has come from #121 in '19, to #21 in '20. Eliminating its game with Clemson, the 'Canes have averaged 35.3 ppg. That goes nicely with the fact that the Cavs have allowed at least 27 points in 10 of their last 11 games (40 pts & 483 yards vs Wake. |
10-24-20 | Alabama -21 v. Tennessee | Top | 48-17 | Win | 100 | 94 h 54 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit SEC Game of the Week What an "O". Alabama 2nd in passing & scoring "O", behind Jones' 379.5 passing yards per game (12 TDs with only 2 INTs). In off posting 567 yards vs Georgia's previous 236 yards per game "D", & turning 24-20 deficit, into 41-24 win. Tennessee 7 points from 10-2 ATS, but have been outscored, 61-7 since 0-27 windup at Georgia. Romp!! |
10-24-20 | Houston v. Navy +14 | 37-21 | Loss | -109 | 51 h 23 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Coogs have extra day to ease the sting of last week's loss to BYU, in which they saw 26-14 lead evolve into 43-26 loss. Have ceded 31+ points 16-of-20 lately, but Tune 619 passing yards & 6 TDs L2 weeks. Navy ranks unheard of 24th in rush "O", but L3 home games decided by 3, 5, 2 points SU. Barnburners the rule |
10-24-20 | Southern Miss v. Liberty -11 | 35-56 | Win | 100 | 49 h 42 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Flames have been a welcome addition to the FBS these past 3 years, making it to a bowl (which they won) last year. They've won 7 straight games (5-0 this year), with a rushing offense, that has posted 354, 219, 250, 180, & 343 yards to date. Of course, their opposition was anything but formidable, which also applies to the Eagles of Southern Mississippi, who are allowing 40 point per game, as well as 491 yards per game. A sudden decent showing in 41-31 upset of North Texas, only serves to lower the line on this one. We'll lay the double digits. |
10-24-20 | Kansas v. Kansas State -19.5 | Top | 14-55 | Win | 100 | 90 h 9 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit Big-12 Game of the Week No Thompson at QB for Wildcats (209 passing yards per game & 4 TDs with 0 INTs), but with, or without him, this is one that Kansas State always gets, & gets impressively. Line moved more than a TD with Thompson's absence, but can't see KU competing, allowing 38, 47, 47, 38 points, & only Vanderbilt a worse "O". |
10-24-20 | Temple +13.5 v. Memphis | 29-41 | Win | 100 | 48 h 36 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Owls have let us down, so far, especially in last week's narrow escape vs previously horrid South Florida, who stood at -54½ points ATS for the season. Temple is on a 34-17 spread, in spite of that USF wrencher. The Tiger offense is nearly unstoppable, as evidenced by its 50 points & 734 yards, in upset of Central Florida. However, its defense ranks as the worst in the nation, allowing an amazing 798 yards vs the Knights. Two straight barnburners for Memphis (30-27 loss & 50-49 win), with this one making it three. To wire |
10-23-20 | Dodgers v. Rays UNDER 7.5 | 6-2 | Loss | -110 | 9 h 56 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units While the first two games of the 2020 World Series have flown "over" the number, Game 3 sets up as more of a pitchers "duel." The Dodgers turn to Walker Buehler, who has posted a 1.89 ERA and 19 K's over four playoff starts so far. The Rays counter with Charlie Morton, who is 3-0 with a 0.57 ERA and 17 K's in the playoffs. The "under" has hit in Buehler's last five starts and Morton has arguably been the best pitcher during the entire playoffs. Look for these two capable starters to battle deep and expect this total to fall "under" the number. |
10-22-20 | Giants +4.5 v. Eagles | 21-22 | Win | 100 | 8 h 43 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Hard to believe that the Eagles are approaching the Giants in regard to futility, but it's true. Yes, we are aware the Giants are 1 point from winless, but Philly's demise is shocking. That being said, they're still very much alive for a division title, which shows just how horrible the NFC East is, at this point. Eagles' 1-4-1 mark their worst start since '98. No first downs on their first 6 drives vs the Ravens, & have allowed 20+ points in all 6 games. And check Wentz with 18 lost fumbles since '17 (most among NFL QBs). Six straight games for the Giants with 300 Total Yards, or fewer (first time since 2003). Visitor has covered last 4 games between these 2. Make it 5 straight |
10-20-20 | Rays +1.5 v. Dodgers | 3-8 | Loss | -132 | 2 h 8 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Clayton Kershaw gets the opportunity to set aside his postseason demons when he takes the ball for the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series opener against the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night in Arlington, Texas. The two teams that compiled the best regular-season records in the majors will be on the field for the first neutral-site Fall Classic, but most of the focus will be on Kershaw as Los Angeles seeks its first World Series title since 1988. The left-hander is considered one of the top pitchers of his era and a sure Hall of Famer, but his postseason performances have been filled with blemishes. The three-time Cy Young Award winner and 2014 National League MVP is just 11-12 with a 4.31 ERA in 35 career postseason appearances (28 starts). He has made five World Series appearances (four starts) and is 1-2 with a 5.40 ERA |
10-18-20 | Jets v. Dolphins -8.5 | 0-24 | Win | 100 | 30 h 55 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units All good (or bad) things must come to an end, but until they do, just continue to buck the Jets (0-5 SU & ATS). Are 0-3 at home for 1st time since 1999. Weekly dig their hole, as their 93-29 point scoring deficit in first half testifies. And allowing 30+ points in 4 straight games for first time since '96. What a game for Dolphin QB Fitzpatrick at San Francisco: 22-of-28, 350 passing yards, & 3 TDs. That's his 5th career game with 350+ passing yards & no picks. Another? How about Miami scoring on 9 of its 12 possessions vs the 49ers, as well as their points scored (43) since 2015. Jet faithful are quickly losing their belief in "hope" |
10-18-20 | Ravens -7.5 v. Eagles | 30-28 | Loss | -104 | 89 h 6 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units In '04, these 2 battled at the Linc. That's when Terrell Owens perfectly mimicked Ray Lewis' "Entrance Dance" after scoring a TD. A thing of beauty. Would you expect anything different from T.O.? Best start (4-1) for Ravens since '12: last time they won a Super Bowl. Seemingly unstoppable Jackson has been neutralized, of sorts, lately. Only 19-of-37, for 180 passing yards 2 TDs and 1 interceptions vs Cincinnati, while running for just 3 yards on 2 carries. But Raven "D" had no problem with Bengals: just 12 first downs, 7 sacks, 3 take aways, & a TD. Fourth win this season by 14+ points. Eagles off to worst start (1-3-1) since 2011, with Wentz' 9 picks most by Philly QB thru 5 games since Jaworski in '77 |
10-18-20 | Broncos v. Patriots -9.5 | 18-12 | Loss | -115 | 89 h 1 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Newton was battered fairly viciously in his last 2 meetings with the Broncos (Super Bowl & following season's opening week). He should be ready for this, as he is recovering from Covid. No matter, as Belichick is again, masterful, despite the fact that Brady is now wearing a Tampa Bay jersey. What a pair they were. Simply the best. But Pats aren't about to fold their tent, and will be in the thick of division play. The Broncos are hurting (what's new?), especially with the loss of Miller. Pats again |
10-18-20 | Falcons v. Vikings -4 | 40-23 | Loss | -105 | 27 h 43 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units 22 years ago, the Dirty Birds came into Minnesota & shocked the #1 seed Vikings, in overtime in the NFC Title Game. Bye-bye HC Quinn of the Falcons, after their 0-5 start, allowing 30+ points in 4 of those 5. Crazy thing is, he should have been a Super Bowl winning coach if he didn't outsmart himself vs the Pats in '16. First 0-5 start since '97, going on to the Super Bowl the following year. And check "Matty Ice" with zero TD passes in back-to-back games for the first time since his 2008 rookie season. Minnesota felt the sting of latest Russell Wilson comeback, losing to Seattle in the final 0:15, but did post 31 first downs, 201 rushing yards, & 248 passing yards. Minnesota extends Falcon woes |
10-18-20 | Bengals v. Colts -7 | 27-31 | Loss | -117 | 25 h 55 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Young Gun vs the Old Vet in this one. Burrow vs Rivers, good stuff. However, both are coming off some pretty brutal performances in losses in Cleveland & in Baltimore. Bengal "O" vs Ravens: try 3 points, 7 punts, 3 turn overs, & a turnover on downs. Burrow sacked 7+ times for the 2nd time this season. They need to find a way to keep this guy healthy. And Cincy "D" has allowed 150+ RYs for the 4th time this season. For Indy, check allowing points on the Browns' first 4 drives, & ceding season-high 32 points, & 385 yards. And Indy is 2-0 at home for the first time since 2010, as well as 10-0 ATS off a SU loss vs a |
10-17-20 | Texas A&M -6.5 v. Mississippi State | Top | 28-14 | Win | 100 | 101 h 33 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit SEC Game of the Week Texas A&M took Florida at the gun (10 points in L4:30), behind 338 Mond passing yards (656 L2 outings). And check 174 rushing yards from Spiller vs Gators. Mississippi State's Costello has come from 623 passing yards (Lsu), to 313 (Ark), to 232 with no TDs and 4 interceptions (Ky). From 44, to 14, to 2 points. Momentum squarely A&M's. |
10-17-20 | UMass v. Georgia Southern -29 | Top | 0-41 | Win | 100 | 94 h 5 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit Blowout of the Week This is the only game scheduled by the Minutemen this season, as they were among the first schools to bow to the germ. Cannot imagine the lack of proper preparation they bring to the table. Even if everything was normal, the fact that they were bottom rung occupants in scoring defense in '19 (53 points per game), cannot be overstated. The Eagles of Georgia Southern are always an overland threat, and again this year, ranking 4th in the land, at 272 rushing yards per game.. UMass was also last in rushing containment last year. Eagles have a rare chance to explode, & despite the Minutemen hopes, we can't envision them staying in it |
10-17-20 | Army v. UTSA +7 | Top | 28-16 | Loss | -104 | 92 h 35 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit CFB Upset of the Week Roadrunners are an "under-the radar" squad, despite their vast improvement under new head coach Traylor. They've been a spread dream, covering 8 of their last 10 games, & are just 8 pts from a 10-0 ATS run, with the latest coming in last week's narrow 27-20 to a BYU squad which entered with a 148-24 point edge for the year (+84 points ATS). The dog as covered all 4 of their games so far, by 54½ pts. The Cadets are overland giants again (#2), but are anything but a road play, as host in Army games 5-0 ATS lately (+87½ pts). |
10-17-20 | South Florida v. Temple -10 | Top | 37-39 | Loss | -110 | 96 h 22 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit ACC Game of the Week Bulls in off ultimate downer, being taken apart by East Carolina. Now a 124-31 point deficit in lined games, while rushing for 106, 83, & 92 yards. And QB McCloud is just 1 TD with 4 interceptions for the year. Owls 9-1 ATS as AAC chalks, & in off a 106-yard edge over Navy, losing on 50-yard FG & 2 missed PATs. |
10-17-20 | Auburn v. South Carolina +3.5 | 22-30 | Win | 100 | 90 h 47 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units South Carolina got healthy, overland, vs Vanderbilt, coming from 103 rushing yard per game, to 289 vs Vandy (Harris: 171 yards). Ditto the Tigers (from 65 rushing yards per game to 259 at Arkansas), but note not much help from QB Nix, who ranks 58th in passing efficiency. Carolina has LSU up next. So what |

10-14-20 | Rays -130 v. Astros | 3-4 | Loss | -130 | 4 h 39 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Glasnow, 27, has provided good theatre by striking out 20 batters in 13 1/3 innings this postseason for the Rays, who have won each of his last 11 starts including the playoffs. Glasnow also won his lone career regular-season encounter against Houston after permitting one run on six hits in five innings in 2019. George Springer is 2-for-3 in a small sample size versus Glasnow, but Michael Brantley (0-for-8, two strikeouts) hasn't been as fortunate. Houston right-hander Zack Greinke will get the nod on Wednesday. The former AL Cy Young Award winner surrendered a pair of home runs and four runs total in 4 2/3 innings of a no-decision against the Oakland A's on Thursday. Greinke owns a 4-6 record with a 3.36 ERA in 17 career appearances (14 starts) versus Tampa Bay |

10-11-20 | Astros +134 v. Rays | 1-2 | Loss | -100 | 10 h 14 m | Show
The Astros saw Snell three times in last year's ALDS, beating him 3-1 in Game 2 behind a homer by Bregman and the pitching of Gerrit Cole. Snell's other two appearances were in relief, including getting two outs and a save in Game 4. Snell also started once against Houston last year in the regular season, allowing homers to Altuve, Brantley and Springer on a 5-1 loss on Opening Day. He was opposed that time by Justin Verlander. The Astros lost Cole in free agency last offseason and won't have Verlander in this series following Tommy John surgery. Overall for his career, Snell has made six starts against the Astros in the regular season, going 2-2 with a 4.73 ERA. Snell (1-1) has opened both previous series for the Rays, beating Toronto 3-1 in Tampa Bay's 2-0 sweep before losing 9-3 to the Yankees in what turned out to be a five-game series. Valdez (2-0), meanwhile, had a Game 1 win in the Minnesota series and a Game 2 victory in the Oakland series, allowing just two runs and seven hits in 12 innings. The 26-year-old has never faced the Rays, who will be making their first ALCS appearance since beating Boston 4-3 en route to the 2008 World Series. |

10-11-20 | Giants v. Cowboys -8 | 34-37 | Loss | -105 | 31 h 1 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Just what the doctor ordered for the 'Boys, this disaster of a team coming down to Dallas. We imagine for those of you still alive, that the 'Boys will be a very popular choice for those of you in "Survivor Pools". Worst start for Dallas (1-3) since 2010. Check allowing 333 yards & 31 points in the first half vs the Browns, & now yielding 38+ points 3 straight for 1st time since 1960 (first season in team history). More? Okay, how about ceding 307 rushing yards in that loss (most ever by a Cowboy "D"). But Giants are even worse. Back-to-back games without a TD for the first time since '98. NY "D" away this year: 17, 17 points. But Dak (502 passing yards last week) & Co won't be corralled here |
10-11-20 | Dolphins v. 49ers -8 | 43-17 | Loss | -118 | 30 h 25 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Don't tell us it was 36 yrs ago when these 2 battled in Super Bowl XIX, when Montana & Co throttled Marino, & the "Marks Brothers" in Dan's only Super Bowl. Many call that Niner team one of the greatest ever. Second of 3 home games for San Francisco, which let one get away in the late going, allowing 2 TDs in final 4:08 of 25-20 loss to Philly. Have to see quick bounce back, with 26th-ranked Dolphin "O" doing little vs 49ers' 3rd-ranked "D". Miami has now allowed a sack in 30 straight games (longest in NFL), & Fitzpatrick has thrown for no less than 64 4th quarter interceptions since '08. Niners are 9-1 ATS as chalks vs AFC, & 7-1-1 vs the Dolphins. Only way to go |
10-11-20 | Raiders v. Chiefs -11 | 40-32 | Loss | -109 | 28 h 40 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Can anyone in the AFC West scare the Chiefs, just a little? If anyone can, it's down to the Raiders. KC is coming in off a delayed Game vs the Pats. Vs Baltimore on Monday 2 weeks ago: 34 points, 10-of-13 on 3rd down, 517 yards (385 passing yards & 132 rushing yards). And 5 more TDs for Mahomes with zero turnovers vs the Ravens. So Chiefs are now 3-0 for 4th consecutive season (longest streak in team history), & have won 9 straight games, while covering 11-of-12. And Chief "D" has held opposing QBs to passer rating under 100 in 9 straight games. Pity the Raiders |

10-11-20 | Panthers +1.5 v. Falcons | 23-16 | Win | 100 | 27 h 30 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Not the most glamorous of matchups, but sometimes these are the best games. No questioning rebirth of the Panthers last couple of weeks, behind Bridgewater, who was a sweet 26-of-37 for 276 yards, & 2 TDs vs up-&-coming Arizona. Check Carolina's 444-262 yard edge, as it scored TDs on 3 of its first 4 drives vs the Cards. That marked Panthers' 1st win over an NFC opponent since October 13, 2019 (9 straight losses). And it was also their first game this season without allowing a rushing TD. Falcons in off Monday Nighter at Green Bay |
10-11-20 | Cardinals -7 v. Jets | 30-10 | Win | 100 | 27 h 23 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The "Todd Bowles Bowl", as he was DC of the Cards, & HC of the Jets for a time. Can the Jets win 3 games this year? Doubtful. First road chalk role for the Cards since 20-10 win over the Niners on Nov 5, 2017. Quick start, but allowing 28.5 points per game in current 2-game losing streak, with this the 2nd of 3 consecutive RGs. Faltered badly in 1st traveler, with 4 punts, a TD, & a fumble in their first 6 possessions at Carolina, winding up with a 444-262 yard deficit, despite decent Murray effort: 24-of-36 & 3 TDs and 0 interceptions, but just 133 yards. Jets stayed with Broncos, but note Darnold being sacked in 20th consecutive game (longest streak in NFL). Cards looking past nobody. |
10-10-20 | Temple -3 v. Navy | Top | 29-31 | Loss | -110 | 99 h 8 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit NCAAF Mismatch of the Week First game for the always dangerous Owls, who are on a spectacular 34-15 ATS run, including 3 straight vs the Middies. Navy is always a standard as a rushing "O" elite (#1 last year). Not this year, with 301-119, 265-204, & 369-90 rushing yard deficits. And note visitor is 22-13 ATS in Navy games |
10-10-20 | Kansas State +9 v. TCU | 21-14 | Win | 100 | 45 h 2 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Cats are something else, seeming to get stronger as their games wear on, as their back-to-back comeback wins over Oklahoma & Texas Tech attest. Try 31-5 & 14-0 windups with those upsets, for covers of 35 & 12 points, which continued to extend the success of the underdog in Kansas State games, with the pup now 10-2 ATS in last dozen 'Cat outings. As a matter of fact, the dog has won the last 7 Wildcat games Straight up! First chalk role for the Frogs, who are a paltry 4-14 as home favorites, and are only 14-13 SU past 2 years |
10-10-20 | Pittsburgh v. Boston College +6.5 | Top | 30-31 | Win | 100 | 97 h 4 m | Show |
Rating: 3 Unit CFB Play of the Day Third straight home game for Eagles, who still can't run (84, 87, 40 rushing yards), although Jurkovec in off 310-passing yard effort vs North Carolina. BC had tying 2-point try run back in L0:45. Solid dog play, & Pitt "D" allowed 29 first downs & 336 passing yards in L0:23 loss to NC State, offsetting Pickett's 411 passing yards. To wire |
10-10-20 | Florida -6.5 v. Texas A&M | Top | 38-41 | Loss | -110 | 93 h 11 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit SEC Game of the Week |
10-10-20 | Virginia Tech +4.5 v. North Carolina | 45-56 | Loss | -110 | 41 h 59 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Hokies keep on doing it, despite health problems, taking Duke, despite being down to 21 players, & just 2 full-time coaches. Note 643 rushing yards L2 weeks. Herbert LW: 208 rushing yards (10.4 yards per rush). UNC #1 in rushing "D", with QB Howell, RB Carter smoking. Points the play. |
10-10-20 | Oklahoma v. Texas +2.5 | 53-45 | Loss | -109 | 41 h 56 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units For the 11th straight time, the Longhorns have been pegged as the dog in this classic "throw away the records" series, & they've paid off handsomely in that role, covering 7 of 8 since '13, with the only miss coming in the '18 conference title match. And this has been the case for the recent history, the Okies field one of the most potent offenses, only to be damaged by a highly porous defense, having dropped 2 straight games for the first time since 1999, & 2-10 ATS. Ehlinger (308 passing yards per game)does his thing in this |
10-08-20 | Bucs -3 v. Bears | 19-20 | Loss | -130 | 1 h 26 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Potential playoff matchup? This is another big one with late season tie-breakers on the line. Even though Brady has had a ton of success in cold Foxboro in January, he'd like to avoid Soldier Field if possible. Three straight wins for the Bucs with Tom at 1,123 yards, & a TD catch in 5 straight games for Evans. The Bears at home this year: 17 & 11 points (0-2 ATS), & only 28 rushing yards in hosting loss to the Colts. Their first 10 possessions: 3 points & 7 punts, & they're the only team not to score a 3rd quarter TD this year. Tom last week: 369 passing yards & 5 touchdowns with 1 interception (oldest player with 2 straight 3+ TD games). Lay the points |
10-06-20 | Padres v. Dodgers -160 | 1-5 | Win | 100 | 9 h 39 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Walker Buehler is expected to get the start here. The Padres were held to 2 or less runs in half of their ten games against the Dodgers this season. Buehler is 24-9 with a 3.15 ERA in his career. He held opponents to a .178 batting average this season. In his 7 post-season starts Buehler has a 2.90 ERA and a .170 BAA. The Padres rallied to get by the Cardinals in the Wild Card round but face a much tougher test here |
10-06-20 | Astros -107 v. A's | 5-2 | Win | 100 | 4 h 41 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Houston Astros are heating up at the right time, first sweeping Minnesota in the Wild Card round before winning the opener of this best-of-five ALDS against Oakland. The Astros look to keep rolling today with left-hander Framber Valdez (5-3, 3.57 ERA) on the mound. Valdez held Minnesota to a pair of hits when working five innings out of the bullpen last Tuesday. He held Oakland to one earned run with nine Ks through seven frames earlier this season. As for A's starter Sean Manaea (4-3, 4.50 ERA), the left-hander has not pitched since September 23 and has allowed six runs on 13 hits in 11 2/3 innings in his last two starts. Consider: Astros are 8-2 in their last 10 Divisional Playoff games. Athletics are 2-7 in their last 9 playoff games |
10-05-20 | Yankees -143 v. Rays | 9-3 | Win | 100 | 8 h 3 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units New York's Gerrit Cole (7-3, 2.84 ERA) allowed two runs and struck out 13 in his victory over the Tribe. Cole has now allowed just five earned runs over his last five games. Blake Snell (4-2, 3.24) allowed seven runs over his last five starts for the Rays. Snell was sharp in his win over the Jays, allowing one hit over 5.1 innings, but he will have his hands full with this healthy and hard-hitting New York line-up. Snell has the propensity to give up the long-ball, which clearly doesn't bode well facing this talented opposing line-up. |
10-05-20 | Astros v. A's -129 | 10-5 | Loss | -129 | 4 h 7 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The A's figure to have the advantage in Game 1, which will be played at Dodger Stadium. McCullers was sharp down the stretch but hasn't started since 9/26. So, its been a layoff. Bassitt, who started Game 2 against the White Sox, was excellent all season and downright dominant down the stretch. He was 3-0 with a 0.34 ERA in September |
10-04-20 | Eagles +7.5 v. 49ers | 25-20 | Win | 100 | 53 h 45 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Third matchup this week that could have a major impact in the NFL playoff picture. Check Niner rout of hapless Giants, despite going it without their starting QB, RB, WR, TE, LB, CB, & 3 "D" linemen. No Jimmy, no problem, as Mullens threw for 323 yards (now has 275+ passing yards in 5 of his last 6 starts). And check San Francisco's first game without a punt since 1993. However, 49ers are 0-6 ATS off a pair of SU/ATS wins. Eagles being killed by the turnover: minus 7 for the season, with Wentz the first Philly QB with 2+ picks in 3 straight games since Ron Jaworski in '85 |
10-04-20 | Lakers -9.5 v. Heat | 104-115 | Loss | -105 | 11 h 53 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Los Angeles has been dominant the first two games, outscoring and outrebounding Miami. The Western Conference champs have been potent both in the paint and from long range, and they show little sign of slowing down with LeBron James and Anthony Davis leading the way. Davis is averaging 33 points and 11.5 rebounds through the first two games, and James is just behind at 29 and 11. The dynamic duo has elicited comparisons to Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal, who combined to win three consecutive championships for the Lakers from 2000-02. Consider: The Lakers are 6-2 ATS in their last eight after a ten points or greater SU victory in their last outing. |
10-04-20 | Giants v. Rams -12.5 | 9-17 | Loss | -105 | 98 h 18 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Right, the road team has covered all 3 Giant contests, with their only spread success by a single point at Chicago. For the first time since 1983, NY has managed 16 points, or fewer, in each of their first 3 games of the season (QB Jones: multiple turnovers in all 3). And Check an NFL-worst 12-39 record since the start of the 2017 season. Quite a comeback for the Rams at Buffalo, turning a 28-3 deficit into a 32-28 lead, only to lose in L 0:15. Donald: 2 more sacks. Should overwhelm toothless Giants |
